Traditional and lagging behind the times

    Anonymous Employee (Current Employee)

Pros- colleagues are intellegent, well educated and committed to excellence on the job
    - younger generation have innovative ideas to help turn the company around

    Cons- too beurocratic
    - distribution systems are based on traditional channels- need to develop new ways of doing business
    - too cost focussed
    - no consistent in flexibile work arrangements
    - no employee advocates/voice within the company
    - the leadership team responsible for poor business decisions with long term consequences to our company profitability remain employed.

Advice to Senior Management- watch the movie "Too Big to Fail"
    - respect the performance contributions of your employees
    - hire executives with strong leadership skills and reward them for demonstrating this effectively on the job- HR should be aggressively focussing on making that happen if they want to keep and hire the best.

The first 2 years were great but afterwards it was downhill after I came back from 2 maternity leaves.

    Customer Services Representative (Current Employee)

ProsThey provide paid education that is related to my work. The compensation is not bad for what I do.

ConsIt's hard to get promoted even when you exceed expectations. They expect higher quantity of work done and cut our breaks to 10 minutes morning and afternoons. I feel like they want us to quit and get cheaper contract employees.

Advice to Senior ManagementIf we perform well, give us a promotion. All the other departments recognize their employees but our department is so stingy with promotions. I used stay after work to finish my work as I wanted my company to do well. Nowadays, I leave right at the end of my schedule and could care less if I have more work piled up. The Call Centre wants us to take more calls yet they don't give us time to work on the after call work unless it's not busy...it's stressful and unfair.

Overall the company has its good points but is not foward thinking in its approach.

ProsCompensation and benefits are comparable to the industry standards. Pockets of good areas to work in.

ConsLeadership is out of touch with current employee needs and is not progressive. Growth is limited in areas outside of finance and actuarial.

Advice to Senior ManagementListen to employees needs more.

    Adventures in politics

    Anonymous Employee (Former Employee)

ProsSome ability to work from home if management permits it

Some managers do actually care about their staff, but they are few and far between

ConsSalaries are lower than comparable companies in the area

Focus is on politics between departments, not in how to work together

Emphasis is on how to not spend money which leads to staff not having the tools they need to do their jobs

For an insurance company, the benefits are barely acceptable

Advice to Senior ManagementPlease review the "Peter Principle" and stop putting people into roles that they are not suited for

Listen to the staff when they have complaints
