    Pros

Lots of work life balance activities. People to work with are all pleasant and business unit managers are the best to work with.

    Cons

Schedule of work is primarily night shift and it can affect health and some personal time of employees.

    Advice to Management

Improve compensation for the employees since they are the backbone of the company.

    Pros

The workplace culture and the management team are very good. Everyone is very friendly and helpful. The work is interesting and the hours are good. They hire a lot co op students, many opportunities there.

    Cons

Not easy to get promoted. You only know people within the group. Not many chances to talk to different departments. If you want to move up quickly, then maybe it's not a good place for you.

    Advice to Management

The management is good there. People are open to discussion. In general, it's a great company to work with.

    Pros

Some extremely bright people work here. The work can be very interesting and there are lots of opportunities to learn. The head offices are very pleasant.

    Cons

It varies widely by department, but in some, there is a very definite glass ceiling for women.
The culture is extremely highly political - often to the detriment of getting some things accomplished in the best way.
The company has a tendency to burn people out, and then discard them (literally or figuratively). No work/life balance allowed if you want to get ahead.
A significant number of people "hide" to try not to draw too much attention to themselves. Not a nurturing culture at all - more dog-eat-dog type of culture.
Too many meetings which rarely start or end on time !!!

    Advice to Management

Cut back on the politics and the meetings.
Stop burying unpleasant things under the carpet - solve them like we used to 15 years ago !!!
Don't set people up to fail, and don't expect them to work 24/7.
Reward and encourage people who excel, and don't play favourites.
Make it fun and challenging to go to work again.
And please, please, post all internally available positions rather than giving them to your favourites !!!

    Pros

Very innovative for a large insurance company, focused on implementing a client focused strategy, lots of opportunities within the company.

    Cons

Some departments are faced paced, very competitive and can feel cut-throat. Some thrive in this environment, others are not a fit.

    Advice to Management

Continue to listen to front line employees who are in touch with the firm's clients and implement changes to better serve the clients (financial advisors) who are the company's distribution arm.

    Pros

Gain lots of valuable learning. Fortunate to have professional and nice mentors who give constructing advice and feedbacks. Work-life balance. A lively company with interesting internal and external events.

    Cons

Unsynchronized business units, gap between one department and the other. But overall, bureaucracy is still able to keep things going well.

    Advice to Management

Senior management needs to blend in well with subordinates at different levels to form effective workplace environment.

    Pros

Work life balance is great, typically 9-5 with occasional variability depending on deal flow

    Cons

Do not invest heavily in training for employee growth. Compensation is not comparable to other FIs.

    Pros

My colleagues and team were wonderful.

    Cons

This place is an absolute joke. While you're in training supervisors and management are your best friends and everyone is cheering you on. Then (if you manage to stick out the 8 week training program, which some don't) you're brought up to the floor and put through your paces. One day you're doing an amazing job, the next you're completely incompetent. Literally this place has less than a 50% employee retention for their Case Managers. They (management) keeps telling people its because of the nature of the job - no, its because you treat your staff like they are totally disposable. People around me indicated that things would "get better with time" or noted that their job reduced them to tears more days than not for the first 6 months of their employment. There is something inherently wrong with this, and absolutely zero accountability. Don't bother with HR because they will side with management as well. A complete and utter waste of time.

    Advice to Management

Every employee (not just your favourites) are people too. They should be treated with dignity and respect. Upper management needs to hold middle management accountable. Instead of shrugging it off as a tough job you may want to step back and re evaluate why intelligent, articulate people are fleeing this job like the building is on fire.
