    I worked at Manulife Financial

    Pros

Gain lots of valuable learning. Fortunate to have professional and nice mentors who give constructing advice and feedbacks. Work-life balance. A lively company with interesting internal and external events.

    Cons

Unsynchronized business units, gap between one department and the other. But overall, bureaucracy is still able to keep things going well.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Senior management needs to blend in well with subordinates at different levels to form effective workplace environment.

I worked at Manulife Financial full-time (more than 3 years)

    Pros

My colleagues and team were wonderful.

    Cons

This place is an absolute joke. While you're in training supervisors and management are your best friends and everyone is cheering you on. Then (if you manage to stick out the 8 week training program, which some don't) you're brought up to the floor and put through your paces. One day you're doing an amazing job, the next you're completely incompetent. Literally this place has less than a 50% employee retention for their Case Managers. They (management) keeps telling people its because of the nature of the job - no, its because you treat your staff like they are totally disposable. People around me indicated that things would "get better with time" or noted that their job reduced them to tears more days than not for the first 6 months of their employment. There is something inherently wrong with this, and absolutely zero accountability. Don't bother with HR because they will side with management as well. A complete and utter waste of time.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Every employee (not just your favourites) are people too. They should be treated with dignity and respect. Upper management needs to hold middle management accountable. Instead of shrugging it off as a tough job you may want to step back and re evaluate why intelligent, articulate people are fleeing this job like the building is on fire.

    I worked at Manulife Financial

    Pros

Flexible work hours (moreso depending on your manager), but people can come in as late as 10-10:30. All they request is that you complete your 7.5 hours a day. They pay very decently and they treat acturial students very well (reimbursements for exams, time off for studying etc)

    Cons

From what I felt, the atmosphere is a little dull. Not too much friendliness or contact throughout the office. When I worked there and attended an office social, I realized that a lot of the long-time employees working in the same department didn't even know a lot of the other people's names.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

perhaps encourage more office social events, or a more lively atmosphere.
