    Pros

Great Work/Life balance, good culture to work with in IT, and a very stable environment. Lots of opportunity within IT if you are willing to accept new roles.

    Cons

Though there are good people, there are lots of organizational changes that make it hard to see the light. IT needs more support from management to improve inefficiencies. Change is hard within this culture since the acquisition of John Hancock.

    Advice to Management

Listen to individual contributor ideas. Foster an environment where both extroverts and introverts can share suggestions to make the company better.

    Positive Outlook

I have been working at Manulife full-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

Company is very involved in community volunteering and offers employees time and transportation during work hours to participate. Co-workers are intelligent and pleasant to work with. The majority of workers care about the work they are doing.

    Cons

Individual managers can make or break an employees work experience. The most qualified for advancement are not always chosen because they do not know the "right" people.

    Advice to Management

Stop trying to recreate programs and processes that were developed at the corporate level. You are not making it better, you are making it more confusing for the workers in your division.

I have been working at Manulife full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

Nice work enviroment, nice management team, a lot of fun events, food courts are not bad

    Cons

They should not put accountants together with the acturies both in Fianace, the acturies get far more benefits than accountants, makes all the financial analysts feel so unfair. The reorg. is just throwing more work to all employees, what's the benefit?

    Pros

Treated with respect and as a full-time employee. The work is engaging when there's is work and interesting projects.

    Cons

Many instances when there's not enough work, there's mindless work, or work given to you just to keep you busy that the department won't utilize.

    Advice to Management

Keep interns more engaged and work more consistent. Perhaps better training during the initial weeks will alllow interns to take on more tasks and projects as the internship progresses.

    Pros

Stable company -- seems to withstand bad economic times better than peers. The company's risk aversion makes it somewhat of an unexciting place to work for, but contributes to the sense of stability.

    Cons

Typical downsides of working for a large corporation -- it often feels that your work doesn't make a difference. The corporate hierarchy is 8-10 levels deep, so a common worker feels very detached from senior management.

    Advice to Management

I have every reason to believe that our senior management is highly capable,
