    Pros

If you work with a leadership team who follows the values and has your back when you follow the values, then you will love working for MLF.

    Cons

Its unfortunate that not all MLF leaders live by the values or have the backs of their employees who respectfully challenge status quo with. Be sure to get to talk to people in the dept you are interested in working in. There are huge differences from one dept to another.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Former Employee - Production Supervisor in Surrey, BC (Canada)

I worked at Maple Leaf Foods full-time (more than 5 years)

    Pros

Floor / production employees cared alot about the product produced. Very concerned with quality and presentation.

    Cons

Plant now closed. Local management had little regard for staff. HR was very ineffective...except good at planning decorations for all the seasons... hardly relevant to HR.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Michael McCain and his ego are the root of the problem. I understand building shareholder value but the sacrifice of hardworking people consistently and destroying the Schneider brand just to say he could is unbelievable.

I have been working at Maple Leaf Foods full-time (more than an year)

    Pros

Large company with opportunity to grow. Some very good teams and leaders. The benefits are quite good with good health and RSP matching.

    Cons

Sometimes the left hand doesn't know what the right is doing. The departments are very disjoint. There is different rules for different locations throughout Canada.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Consider all the ramifications of your decisions - people, software, equipment. Sometimes decisions seem to be made on a whim and the results cause more issues than they solve.

I have been working at Maple Leaf Foods full-time (more than 10 years)

    Pros

great co-workers and work environment in Winnipeg-Lag. Some opprotunity for growth if you work really hard and lots of hours.

    Cons

Poor Management and Senior Leadership Team. Absolutely no work life balance. You could be on your death bed and still be expected to show up to work. You have to be a brown noser in order to move up in status.Lots of Supervisors with very poor people skills; lots of bickering and favortism between supervisors. Some supervisors let the status go to their heads, being extremely rude and disrespectful to hourly employees to the point of threats. They should be cleaning up the garbage people they have as supervisors.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Pay attention to the interactions between supervisors and watch how they treat their employees. Some of the supervisors have no business being supervisors and need to learn respect for everyone. There are supervisors who are so two faced and would throw you under a bus in a heartbeat just to make themselves look good.
