I worked at Maple Leaf Foods full-time (more than 10 years)

    Pros

Easy to survive - no one is held accountable regardless of the severity of the failure.

    Cons

Too top heavy. People that work hard and deliver are downplayed versus others who do not work hard or deliver yet their performance is promoted and deemed stellar. They talk a good story about a rewards for performance but who are we kidding?

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

I have been working at Maple Leaf Foods full-time

    Pros

    Occupational Health & Safety; Benefits

    Cons

The software program Maple Leaf uses (SAP)- is not user friendly and inefficient, a single function becomes a long drawn out process, very high maintenance, requires additional people resources to manage.

Poorly managed company, disorganized, and out of control(at least the plant where i work).Lack of qualified supervisors. They have nothing good to say about you and they crap all over you. Very condescending. And these people are put in charge?

They don't treat you with respect and you are not valued even if you are a loyal employee and show up to work every day and put in your best effort. Doesn’t that count for anything? You are like raw meat, you’re processed, packaged, chewed, and spit out. What do you expect it’s a meat processing plant?

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

I have been working at Maple Leaf Foods as a contractor (more than an year)

    Pros

The company is very fair with how they treat employees and the work is interesting. Working full-time is a good choice here.

    Cons

It is a 6 Sigma company, so work is very siloed. It can feel monotonous or unchallenging at times.

I worked at Maple Leaf Foods as an intern (less than an year)

    Pros

I had lots of free time.
I also got free lunch everyday and lots of free meat.

    Cons

I was never given any significant tasks during my 4 month placement. It was clear to after a few weeks that I was hired in error, the department had a tradition of hiring interns and continued to do so despite having literally nothing for them to do. My supervisor made little effort to make use of my talents or even to give me busy work, it was clear that he did not even want to deal me. I'm really not a bad employee and I did not ask for or deserve this type of treatment. My 4 months at Maple Leaf were the most boring 4 months of my life.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Everyone has value and potential, tap into it!! Don't hire people if you don't need them, and if you do, find something for them to do, there is always something. Keep hiring co-op students, just make sure to make good use of them.

I worked at Maple Leaf Foods full-time (more than 10 years)

    Pros

Fair benefits, good investment in training programs; fair social committee activities

    Cons

Too many Directors - top heavy management, revolving door for employees - reflected at their Town Halls with minimal # of employees with 10, 20 & 25 years service as they have all been released.
No employee store in fact employee sales are with dated products. No work-life balance as they do not walk the talk. Too many unhappy employees. HR not concerned for employee issues and very little support for advancing in the organization.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Continue to load up with the Millennial generation - you'll be sorry as they are not committed, reliable or leadership values consistent even for the below average salaries your offering!
Invest in a great Orientation team to process the high turnover!
