ProsI enjoyed being able to serve my customers a fun experience, with a delicious product.

ConsFranchise fees, silly franchise regulations, way too many emails,

    It was a bit ridiculous

    Ice Cream Scooper (Former Employee)

    Pros-First time job with tip
    -Can be fun at times
    -Ice cream is great
    -Usually pretty easy
-Ability to move up fairly easily if you're 18
    -Nice people (aside from management)

ConsDealing with management was an entire hassle and deterrent in and of itself throughout my employment. I quit due to a better job offer, to be honest. Not that bad of a first time job, but if you can find a better job, I'd suggest it.

Advice to Senior ManagementBe kinder and better organized

I worked part time at Marble Slab for less than a year.

    Clerk (Former Employee)
    El Paso, TX

ProsPros: Nice co-workers, nice people, friendly environment. I would say that it was a decent first job and a good experience for those who have never worked before.

ConsCons: The management wasn't all that it was cracked up to be. The turnover rate was really high because of discrepancies between what was promised in the interview and what actually happened. Chances to get a raise or any significant promotions is also a no-go.

Advice to Senior ManagementTry to be more connected with individual stores to see how successful they are and why they may not be operating as well as other locations.

Fun environment, owner could be more involved

    Shift Supervisor (Former Employee)

ProsFree ice cream, happy customers, variety of things to keep busy, tips were usually decent, manager was very involved despite managing three locations.

ConsOwner was not involved - I worked there for 1.5 years and met him twice. He didn't remember meeting me.

    Terrible experience here

    Anonymous Employee (Former Employee)
    San Antonio, TX

ProsFree ice cream, made amazing in tips.

ConsWorked alone and with little knowledge. No paid training.

Advice to Senior ManagementManagement was terrible and never involved or there. Too concerned with saving money by turning off all the utilities when not in use like water and such. Wouldn't let you clock in even a second early without changing your time.

    Decent, not exceptional

    Shift Leader (Former Employee)
    Broken Arrow, OK

    ProsFun work environment, friendly people

ConsIce cream was hard sometimes making it difficult to scoop. Customers would often get upset about the high prices.

Advice to Senior ManagementDon't just hire pretty girls.

    A Great Learning Experience

    Assistant Manager (Former Employee)
    Champaign, IL

ProsThe owner operators were organized, efficient, and kind. Expectations were high, but what was expected was clear. Staff was tight knit and they felt like family. A great first job with lots of room to move up and get paid more.

ConsGossip and over dramatic employees made the family atmosphere tense. You couldn't trust some of the regular employees to do their job thoroughly and then being the manager, you usually took the hit for their failed work.

Advice to Senior ManagementCombat the drama as best as possible. It's expected when you hire 16-year-olds. If employees need a 15 breather to chill, let them, but beware of the employees who sit on their butts all day and eat gummy bears.

Yes, I would recommend this company to a friend – I'm optimistic about the outlook for this company

Is was a fun learning experience.

    Assistant Manager (Current Employee)
    Charleston, SC

ProsLearn different things that will help you later in the retail business.
Bakery, finances, sales, customer service, team building, quickness, opening/closing procedures, machine operating, sanitation, organization, and friendliness for tips.
Not much to do in the winter.

ConsNot too much room for advancement.
    Low pay.
Dealing with customers that never fail to tell you that the ice cream is pricey but all you have to say is 'I don't decide on the prices'. Besides... You get free ice cream.

Advice to Senior ManagementI loved my manager but be a former manager used to still tips from former employees, so please know that we didn't get paid enough so someone would still tips too.

The job was not very good, but it was mostly due to the manager.

    Basic Employee (Former Employee)
    Cedar Park, TX

ProsYou get to work inside with air conditioning. Customers are USUALLY friendly and happy because they're getting ice cream which makes for a positive environment.

ConsThe pay was $6 an hour plus tips. However, the prices of the ice cream were pretty high so most customers were surprised when I told them the price and were not likely to tip. The average pay with tips was $7 per hour.

Advice to Senior ManagementI would recommend either lowering the ice cream prices or making a set, minimum-wage (at the least) pay for employees because the below-minimum-wage plus tips system didn't appeal to most workers and there was a high turnover in employees.
