Pros
Supportive management, friendly staff, very flexible
Cons
Customers still getting in line after the store actually closes
Advice to Senior Management
Stay the same. Keep your hearts.
Pros
Flexible schedule, fun co-workers, good inter-department communication
10% discount is decent, although only up to $30 ($50 in November and December).
Raises are....okay. I would guess about standard these days to other competitors.
Cons
Generally I have had zero problems with General Managers and Assistant Managers, but if you work the front end, you might get screwed on your Customer Service Manager.
Overall looking at the managers, you can see the sexual bias towards men. Very few men are CSMs (possibly none) and very few women are Asst. Managers and even fewer are Gen. Managers. Marc's is almost always looking for Managers and willing to train almost anybody. I have had several CSMs in my 6 years at this company. All of them were female, and I had some issues with over half of them, mostly concerning scheduling. I'm currently lucky with my CSM, but the company likes to play musical managers at the drop of a hat, so you're never quite sure how long someone will be there.
There's not a whole lot of communication from Corporate to lower employees, except when they make their rounds to the stores, and then it's mostly to intimidate anyone who is not a department supervisor. I'm fairly content however, with communication from my store managers.
Lack of many full-time positions. Other than the 4 managers, there are at most 12 full-time employees per store. Zero cashiers or misc stock employees have full-time. While this isn't necessarily surprising as we're considered a breaking ground for high schoolers, it's aggravating to those who are out of school and need more hours just to make ends meet.
Advice to Senior Management
It would be nice if stores could be a little bit more flexible with labor hours. There are so many people who perform so well who would greatly appreciate more hours.
Pros
Vacation time is good
I like the camaraderie of my coworkers
Cons
I work as a warehouse clerk working 38 hours..I have never been given 40 hours and manage and inventory a warehouse. The benefits are horrible. I am not considered management, yet I am in charge of an entire warehouse..seems like that is manager to me. I have been told that if they were to consider my position a manager I would need 40 hours a week max, benefits and they would have to contribute to my 401K. But this will not happen
Pros
Most managers are cool and/or won't give you any problems
Very easy to get the days you want off
Pretty good at scheduling based on availablilty
Job isn't difficult at all
Great co-workers
Cons
Nonexistent benefits for part time
Incredibly underpaid
Bad raises (once a year, a maximum of 15 cents)
Hours are continously cut, and never gone up in my 2 years there, maximum of 28 hours for part time
The managers that are bad are really bad and not helpful at all, only concerned with making themselves look good
Advice to Senior Management
Stop cutting hours even though business is still strong
Better pay
Managers need to have less concern about looking good at expense of and on the backs of employees
Pros
a pretty simple high school job
Cons
The pay is pretty low
Advice to Senior Management
Better training
Pros
Easy job to do. Great customers to deal with. Always was given time off when needed it. Got as many hours as I wanted to work.
Cons
No raises even if you deserve it. Promotions aren't even worth a raise for that company. Management is completely horrible. This job is only good for 16 year olds.
Advice to Senior Management
if you want great employees to stay with the company you should treat them right. Never giving someone a raise when they deserve it (after YEARS of work) will not keep people there.
Pros
good part-time job while in school flexible hours.
Cons
fast paced environment-sometimes difficult to meet the demands.
Advice to Senior Management
no suggestions
Pros
decent pay
guaranteed 48 hrs a week with overtime
decent heathcare
vacation
personal days
paid bdays
flexible hours
Cons
upper management treats mid/low level employees like they are unintelligent
rules change monthly
unwilling to invest in decent tools to do the job, but complain when the job is up to their liking.
sad raises
