I worked at Marcal Paper Mills full-time (less than an year)

    Pros

There are some people in the company that are dedicated and are willing to work across the board. These people constantly motivated me to do the best job.

    Cons

    1) Management sucks! They don't have any vision for growth. They constantly bump heads with each other to win their ego. Due to which, in the last 9 months, the CFO got fired and the CEO resigned abruptly. In addition to that they lost the Controller, 4 accountants, and many more in IT and Engineering.
    2) I worked in their Finance/Accounting group under the new CFO (Kim Knotts). She started in June 2014 and has created nothing but a mess. She doesn't have any management skills and is always busy pleasing the upper management. She's so bad that the company lost 4 people under her leadership in just 3 months.
    3) The company has 19 yrs old system (BPCS) that is so unorganized that people spend 20% of their time creating excel reports and 80% to verify with with other reports on daily basis. I personally had to put ( * ) to indicate that numbers are true as of today. Not only that, they don't have any interest in investing in a single dollar in improving their systems. Don't believe in their lies regarding system and process upgrade.

I have been working at Marcal Paper Mills full-time (more than an year)

    Pros

Casual dress code and good salaries. When I first started the culture was fun and the mood was light.

    Cons

The building is falling apart. Everyone is under pressure with little to no direction from senior leadership. There is not much work life balance and there are no senior leaders that are women.

I have been working at Marcal Paper Mills full-time

    Pros

Convenient location right off of route 80. Very close to New York City.

Senior Staff is knowledgeable when it comes to the paper industry.

    Cons

Senior and Middle Management are completely unprofessional in the way they treat employees.

The senior staff constantly makes unreasonable and unattainable demands, then attacks you for not being able to follow through with them.

Senior staff regularly uses the threat of being terminated as "motivation."

Very high turnover rate. Multiple terminations on practically a monthly basis.

    Severely understaffed and underpaid.

    Benefits are not very good.

You're expected to work long hours if you are a salaried exempt employee, including weekends. Without compensation.

Hostile work environment. The majority of the employees are unhappy and pass their aggression onto others.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Needs to change their entire approach when it comes to the treatment of their employees.

I worked at Marcal Paper Mills full-time (less than an year)

    Pros

During old ownership, people were a bit happier about working there. A lot of interaction between top management and those in the middle-of-the-organization.

    Cons

Once the new company came in and made their changes, no one felt very comfortable being there. As they make the obvious change to private label, there is still a lot of uncertainty.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

I actually wish them luck with the move toward Private Label. They are knowledgeable people. No bitterness what so ever.
