    Pros

Good work-life balance, good social atmosphere / culture, modest opportunities for side projects and open source work, adequate agile practices.

    Cons

Company vision only about making money, fair number of legacy perl projects, lower-mid management spotty. company only focused on software quality as of 2015, career development support varies by team.

    Advice to Management

Find more effective ways to get honest feedback from non-management staff, anonymous or otherwise. Proactively spend the money to retain your most important staff, there are more attractive places to land as things stand.

    Pros

    - Helpful team and manager. Relaxed atmosphere, not pressured to meet goals
    - You can ask about taking on different responsibilities/projects (within limits)
    - Learn soft skills like customer service and multitasking

    Cons

    - Experience is not very valuable or useful
    - I feel that the company looks down on you because:
    1. HR refers entry-level applicants to this Campaign Manager position.
    2. Executives appear patronizing and separated from other teams.

I felt this was patronizing: In one meeting, a guy in a suit took out a $100 bill, waved it around, and said, "I'll give $100 to anyone who can tell us what we're in the business of." It left me feeling demotivated too.

    Advice to Management

Automate campaign creation, which cuts down on offshore costs, errors in campaigns, and time that CMs spend on creation. Then, you can give them more interesting work that will help them in their career.

    Pros

Overall, there is a good work-life balance, although sometimes there will be additional projects/tasks that may require you to work overtime and/or work from home. There are always free snacks and beverages in the cafe, and often times there will be free food (pizza, sandwiches, salad) there as well. There are frequent meetings and forums that talk about topics/tools used in campaign management, so your knowledge will generally be up-to-date. In addition to daily responsibilities, you will have goals that you set at the beginning and halfway through the year, usually designed to promote your personal career growth and/or your team's functions. All teams are highly collaborative and communicating to your co-workers and senior managers is very easy.

    Cons

Originally applied for another position in the company, interviewed for a campaign manager position. The salary is low, and temporary-to-hire employees do not receive most benefits that regular employees get until they get converted, such as a dental plan and bus pass.

    Advice to Management

Provide some starting benefits for new temporary-to hire employees, such as a company bus pass.

    Pros

Very young and fun company to work for. You feel close to the leadership team, and in all my positions never felt that I was being micromanaged by my managers.

Great company perks, such as happy hours, team events, etc.

Relaxed atmosphere with great work-life balance.

    Cons

Claims to be a performance based company, but does not seem to recognize or value those individuals that work hard. Rewards seem to go to those who can make themselves the most visible, whether or not they are doing the work, and whether or not they are living up to the company's guiding principles.

They tend to be on the lower end of the pay-scale for business or operational positions.

    Advice to Management

Recognize those on your team that come in, work above and beyond, and don't make a big show about it. If you want to say you base things on individual performance, recognize individual performers.

    Pros

Smart people. Great work/life balance. Fun team building activities. It is nice to work downtown where your are near to shopping and restaurants.

    Cons

Ended up in a group where the group cohesion is built around there being an 'outsider' in the group. I am that person. While we are encouraged to express our opinions, if we disagree with a decision, it is best to keep it to yourself.

    Advice to Management

Expect engineering to care more about customers and their needs.

    Pros

Facilities is great and takes care of everyone. Free snacks.

    Cons

    Low pay. No Benefits.
Pay is well below industry standard. You can make more serving or bartending. You won't get benefits and they will work you like a dog. Not an ethical employer that puts value in its employees. There really is no growth in the company unless you are willing to sell your soul. They'll tell you there is plenty of room for growth and that they are growing but look at their stock. Blatantly not true.

    Pros

Good work/life balance, Marchex really tries to have fun and organize lots of events for their employees to socialize at. Most teams seem to vibe well together and there is an overall positive feeling in the office.

Great views and access to downtown.

    Cons

The pay is not competitive at all and creates tension between people in varying roles.

Marchex will do anything to keep its engineers happy and working, while the support staff gets a "take it or leave it" attitude.

    Advice to Management

Develop more vertical flexibility in your support staff roles and compensate hard workers instead of sticking to previously established roles which are no longer relevant.

Instead of cycling through the employees in the support roles, invest into the ones worth keeping around.
