    Pros

Mostly good employees, always something going on. For hourly employees their will always be work for them.

    Cons

If you are a salaried employee they seem to have a big turnover rate of both salary and hourly employees. It could be a very challenging place to work. You needed to be thick skinned.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Be more involved and don't make rash decisions. Listen to your onsite staff and their recommendations. They have a great General Manager who is over worked and does not have enough of a support staff.

I worked at Mardi Gras Casino full-time (more than 3 years)

    Pros

Flexible scheduling provided for great work/life balance. Casino environment is exciting and challenging.

    Cons

Upper management does not provide a clear vision for the company. Morale is low from the top down. Company does not provide raises period. No merit or cost of living pay increases.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Create business plans. Meet one-on-one with Directors on a regular basis. Provide incentives. If you can't financially afford raises have a recognition program in place, host a holiday party, say good job once in awhile.

    Pros

It's a job, it's a paycheck. You form friendships with returning customers. The employees are good people to work with.

    Cons

There is no room for moving up. The security department has seen one raise in the last 10 years, and it was 17 cents. You put up with a lot from you superiors and the patrons of the casino for very little pay.

    Hotel Front Desk

I worked at Mardi Gras Casino

    Pros

Hotel Front Desk's pay is good and it's a union. It's a beautiful place to work at. It's always different but you do form relationship with the guess that returned. It's fast moving to check in/out guess, that makes the shift go by faster. The longer your there, the better you are to have a pick over when you work. I greatly enjoyed working here and would love to go back. With every job tho it has it's downsides. However, it's a job I enjoyed. The night audit was my favorite job. :-)

    Cons

The system used for check in/out guest is very hard to learn. When hired on, be sure to take your time to learn everything you need to know. Mistaken are often at first. Some managers are hard to work with because they think they know it all but really they need to work as a team. Other managers are great leaders and know the system well, you can learn form those ones! Night audit is very very very detail and can be a hard job if you don't know the system used and know the people your working with. However, it's a good idea to see how audit is done to get a better understand of the system.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Micro managing is not the best why to "teach" those below you. Work with them to get a better understanding of what your employee are doing wrong so you CAN teach them how things should be done. Also, playing "favorites" is very unprofessional. Some of your worst employee are you favorite and the good employees have to work hard because of this. However, a few managers have been great!! They TEACH and HELP! There is always room for improvements.

    Pros

There are some hardworking dedicated employees.

    Cons

Horrible upper management. Bad personnel decision making. Raises are far and few between. Does not appear to have best interest of employees in mind . Morale is and has been very low for several years especially for those that have been there awhile. Upper management is not very receptive to new ideas or suggestions Keeps making the same mistakes over and over and expects a different outcome

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Start listening to employees and treat them better

I have been working at Mardi Gras Casino

    Pros

The benefits are great and you are qualified for them after 90 days. The management is easy to get along with and you see all of them regularly. The GM lives in the hotel!

    Cons

Being a guard means the pay isn't good. You get paid $8.50 an hour and since you are not part of the union, you rarely get a raise. (1 in the last 5 years) The turnover rate is extremely high. The only way to transfer departments is all based on seniority not on how qualified you are.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Ask us what we want, Allow us to have raises once in a while, and pay us enough to support our families. Maybe if the pay was better, you could hire more people who aren't college age boys or retirees.

I have been working at Mardi Gras Casino

    Pros

None, really. If i were to say anything at all it would be that the pay was fair and nothing more.

    Cons

Oh, where shall i begin. The pay was fair, yes, BUT that's after week after week of fighting to get your pay check corrected. Which almost happens every pay day, pay day being every Friday. They work you like a dog and with very little respect. Overall, not only do they cheat the costumers they cheat their employees.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Respect the people under you.. and you guys wonder why you have a very high turn rate. Don't take advantage of those who work hard and are loyal to the company. Give back to the employess (raises) you're a casino you can afford it.
