I have been working at Marianjoy Rehabilitation Hospital as a contractor

    Pros

The support staf is excellent. They RNs are a good mix of young, well educated indiviuals, with a older seasoned veterin staff. There is always open comminucation and support from the ancillary staff to the physicians and residents. Attending physicians are happy to have the added support of strong residents. A resident is provided to each floor of the acute rehabilitation hospital, the P&O clinic, day rehab, and outpatient clinic. The organization is gearing up and ahead of the curve when it comes to preparing for the changes that the current healthcare platforms are bring about.

    Cons

Being a consultant based facility that is free standing, travel to outside hospitals is a encouraged, though being outside Chicago usually aalows for fairly easy travel.

I have been working at Marianjoy Rehabilitation Hospital (less than an year)

    Pros

Overall MarianJoy is a good place to work. The plus is that employee benefits begin after 30 days.

    Cons

When the census is low employees can expect being "called-off." Since their has been a lot of changed in healthcare, this happens more times than expected.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Management needs to consider the financial well-being of the staff and allow for better raises and increased hours.

I have been working at Marianjoy Rehabilitation Hospital full-time (more than 3 years)

    Pros

Coming from an Acute Care Hospital, I love the opportunity to see my patients' get better and return to their lives. Working in an acute hospital, my relationship with my patients was very brief, and I enjoy getting a chance to get to know my patients and see the progress they are making as they rehab their way back to recovery

    Cons

Management should look at overall performance, not one time small events

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Senior management, should rely on floor managers, if they do not personally know the experience of the employee in question

I have been working at Marianjoy Rehabilitation Hospital (more than 10 years)

    Pros

How I see patients recover from such tragic things here, I think this place is sometimes a miracle work environment!

    Cons

I would like to work at Marianjoy PT or FT in the right fit for me, yet I have not had the opportunity yet!

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Give ME a chance in a PT or FT, non-certified, pay position, and I know I could be an asset for Marianjoy!

    Pros

Lovely campus on the outside but awful on the inside.

    Cons

Senior leadership keeps incompetent managers employed.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Listen to the employees working under incompetent managers protected by their Directors. Why keep a manager who scores dead last on the employee partnership survey for a second time?

I have been working at Marianjoy Rehabilitation Hospital full-time (more than an year)

    Pros

The facility itself is new and beautiful. On the surface, things look nice.

    Cons

Underneath the surface, nothing matters but money. The over hire nursing staff and then never give you the hours you're scheduled for. I am supposedly a full time night aid but I get cancelled 4 shifts out of ten. Also, they understaff us at night and patients suffer because we cannot take care of so many. I have been on the code blue team during several code blues in the last year. They were so poorly handled it was pathetic! Our staff is poorly trained for medical emergencies. My manager is more interested in making sure I take out the trash than in whether or not my patients are safe, clea and comfortable.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Hire a new director of nursing. The decisions being made are illogical and unprofessional. Morale among the nursing staff is in the toilet. Buying us cookies during 'nurse appreciation week' does not change the serious administration and communication problems that make our lives miserable.
