Great place to work with lots of problem solving for an ever evolving SEM market.

    Global Services (Current Employee)
    San Francisco, CA

Pros1. They pay half your commuting costs
    2. Kitchen is stacked
    3. Micro Management is frowned upon
    4. CEO is an actual human being
    5. Tenacious - when it comes to getting the deal
    6. Good People all around in the organization
    7. Deficiencies are "worn on the sleeve" and company is always trying to improve itself.

    Cons1. Dev Cycles are slow
    2. Google defines the rules, which means the game can be changed quickly.
    3. Services is leaned on heavy to accommodate the lack of supporting 3rd party publisher features.
    4. Market moves faster than Software development which means lots of expectation setting with customers anxious to utilize new market features.
    5. Margins on Services side are watched closely

Advice to Senior ManagementManagement needs to get on the same page on the direction the product needs to go in. Management also needs to work more collaboratively across teams to see where opportunities for efficiency gains exist.

Choose another company if you can.

    Senior Software Engineer (Current Employee)
    San Francisco, CA

ProsDowntown SF Location - Financial District.

ConsTest organization is ruled by developers, in short testers are slaves here.
There is separate events for all of engineering qa.
All the processes in qa are dictated by Developers, there is no independent thinking.
qa are treated as second rate citizen here.
Less chance for professional skill development.
They hire a lot of second rate or non-cs stanford and berkeley candidates.
Hires incompetent managers who eventually becomes burden on individual contributors.
    Politics plays big role.

Choose another company if you can.

Advice to Senior ManagementTreat people with respect.

Good Ole' Boys Club meets Sweat Shop

    Anonymous Employee (Former Employee)
    San Francisco, CA

ProsGreat benefits and perks like free drinks. Good reputation in the industry.

ConsSo many cons it's hard to know where to start. Very male-heavy egomaniacal culture that is overly concerned with outward perception instead of facing and addressing real internal issues. No work-life balance and little flexibility for employees with family - basically a sweat shop. CEO is nice but passive-aggressive, and lacking in organization and leadership. The culture promotes "yes men" and has no tolerance for ideas or thinking outside the box.

Advice to Senior ManagementImprove work-life balance and start practicing forthrightness, leadership and humility. Embrace new ideas instead of what you think fits the mold.

    Bright People, Great Company

    Anonymous Employee (Current Employee)
    San Francisco, CA

    ProsBright, knowledgeable, personable team members
    Top benefits
    Competitive salary
    Great location
    Thoughtful management
Clear company mission/direction - makes it easy to find motivation and sense of urgency
    Primarily promotions happen from within
Work-life balance that makes sense - first, take care of your family, loved ones and friends, then come to work ready to work

I know my review sounds pretty glowing, but I just want to counter some of the negative sentiment... all too often review sites only generate negative content because displeased people are more willing to take the time to write. I personally have been working at Marin for quite some time now, have found great career growth and have thoroughly enjoyed my time working here.

ConsSometimes I see inter-departmental politics creep up... gross. The us-against-them attitude can be very poisonous and needs to be squashed before it takes root. We're all on the same team with the same mission!
I'm tempted to write criticisms of other departments, but that's just not healthy :P

Advice to Senior ManagementKeep up the good work. Proper execution is about having the best people, and we've assembled an excellent team here. As long as we all continue to put egos aside, give credit where credit is due, and keep up the unified Team Marin mentality, great things will come...
