    Pros

Good days seemed to depend on coworkers and the attitude of the customers (always nice if you don't get yelled at over the phone). The pay was alright, (but not competitive) considering it was a temporary position, and the work isn't considerably difficult (phones, filing, computer entry of applications).

    Cons

Inefficient ways of doing things and not willing to change, bureacracy gets in the way. Branches are encouraged to grow, grow, grow and compete, despite size differences.

    Advice to Management

Innovate! Don't get stuck doing things a certain way (filing system, etc) due to inertia.

    Pros

You have benefits, good co-workers (in office) pay check, paid holidays

    Cons

Everything is hush hush, to many reports, raises are few and far between. Not always able to move up in the company. Seems they bring in others from outside to take better positions. Since buyout all new employees seem to have better pay scales. Almost impossible to hit bonuses. They wait until the last week when your in growth and do charge offs. And puts branches in the negative so no chance to bonus.

    Advice to Management

Review the cons; because all of them happen way too much.

    Pros

Small business, but growing, not a lot of corporate stiffness but also very reputable business.

    Cons

Personal loans, sales goals, clientele is sometimes less than desirable. Depending on branch manager, attitude of office and employees can be very different.

    Pros

You have a job, holidays off, and learn something new everyday.

    Cons

The salaries posted on here are not what we actually make! I would like to know who's getting paid like this? I have been a branch manager with the previous company that was bought out by Mariner Finance, for seven years and with them now for a year. Since then my work load has tripled, my goals are ridiculous, there was a serious lack of training, upper management talks to us with lack of respect and in a demeaning tone, and we do not get bonuses. We are supposed to motivate our staff to work like animals with no incentive.

    Advice to Management

Take a pay cut and put yourself in our place. Live in our world, walk in our shoes for a month on our salary. We are not greedy, but we expect to be treated with respect and get paid for the experience we have.

    Pros

I really enjoyed being able to help the hard working people of my community with obtaining a loan when they needed it and could not turn any where else for help.

    Cons

The amount of logs, tracking and other admin duties took away from time that could have been used to generate more business for the office. The micro-managing from upper management was unsettling despite being a branch that met and exceeded goals. Managers and staff were under-paid based on industry standard and averages.

    Advice to Management

pizza parties and ice cream is not a sufficient bonus to reward productivity, employees produce to bring food home to their families.

    Pros

    Competitive pay
    Excellent bonus potential
    Excellent opportunity for advancement
    Growing company
Freedom to manage your own branch
Great management team, who will go out of their way to help you
The company offers lending programs and promotions that many other finance companies no longer offer (mortgage, retail)

I came here from another finance company, where for 4 years there had been nothing but downsizing and layoffs. It's great to be working for a company that is going in the other direction: hiring people and actually opening branches at a fairly rapid pace.

    Cons

Not really any I can think of, as overall I am very happy here.

Branch Managers and above are eligible for (large) semi-annual bonuses, which non-managers aren't eligible for. Company does a decent job of incentivizing non-managers with periodic monthly incentives, which are based off of overall branch performance in certain categories. Company could probably do a better job of incentivizing non-managers with more individualized bonuses/incentives.

    Pros

I really enjoyed working for a great company such as Mariner Finance where I built long-lasting relationships with both customers and fellow employees....said no one ever!

    Cons

Awful experience for the time that I worked for this company!

29.99% interest rate to customer which made it difficult to be competitive in the market
Lofty lending goals for you to meet in order to receive a bonus to compensate for the below average pay you received.
Terrible management at the branch level
Driving our personal vehicle to delinquent customer's homes and workplaces in order to collect payments
