    I worked at Mariner Finance

    Pros

    almost all holidays are off

    Cons

    Difficult to take time off

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

I would not recommend working there - my personal manager whined whenever I requested a day off. To give any decent amount of loan to a customer you need a car title - you need to do dealer calls, which isn't a problem, but it is hard to solicit companies to sell these rates. The company doesn't do much else to help solicit except the loans by mail.

I have been working at Mariner Finance full-time (less than a year)

    Pros

The culture and staff are great. This is a fast paced growing company that offers many opportunities to grow within the company. Everyone wants you to succeed and are willing to help if they can. You are also encouraged to continue your education-Mariner offers an education reimbursement program. There is welcoming open communication with managment and HR. I have not found work-life balance to be an issue. You are expected and encouraged to jump right in and take the reigns of your position. Great 401K incentive.

    Cons

I haven't come across anything that I don't like about Mariner Finance.

  5. Customer Service

I worked at Mariner Finance full-time (more than a year)

    Pros

Did not work on weekends or major holidays. Also getting a pay check, and benefits.

    Cons

No training. Terrible management within the branch. No room for growth. Low hourly rate. High interest rate loans

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Treat your employees better. This company does nothing for their employees. No over time, bonuses or incentives but we have monthly goals. Also better treatment.

  6. Very stressful and unrealistic expectations

I have been working at Mariner Finance

    Pros

Nothing comes to mind! I have been in the finance business for many years and honestly I have never worked for a company as bad as this one. Decent hourly pay but bonus programs are a joke. If you compare the stress and work load against the pay it just isn't worth it.

    Cons

Unrealistic goals that make it impossible to meet even the minimum level on their "bonus program"! Very unsatisfied with their arrogant upper management. Not to mention the outrageous deductibles for insurance or a ten year employee still has to accrues sick time and vacation.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

No advice to give! The business practices of this company are border line reportable and I genuinely believe the arrogance of upper management will be the down fall of this company.

I have been working at Mariner Finance full-time (more than 3 years)

    Pros

    You will have an income.

    Cons

You'll have no personal time! In the beginning you are told you'll have more family time than you did with Sunbelt companies but that was not true. You feel more like a prisoner than an employee and they will let you know there is someone waiting to replace you if you don't comply! You are told you can not leave work until you reach the goal they set. You need a degree to advance in the company but if you do not have a degree and try to attain one, you wont have time because you are always at work! Overtime is mandatory, not optional. You choose between having a job or attending to your families. You work during normal business hours and only get a half an hour lunch break so you do not have time for ANYTHING! You do not get paid enough for what you do. Training was not helpful because everyday there is something new that you were not trained on. The goals set are unrealistic and everything is a secret from the employees. A lot of customers have skipped out on this company because of their ridiculous lending standards. Following regulations is one thing but being down right ridiculous to good customers is another!

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Pay your employees better for the work they do. A degree doesn't always outweigh experience!

I worked at Mariner Finance full-time (more than a year)

    Pros

Competitive pay, strong chance for advancement and aggressive expansion throughout the country.

    Cons

The emphasis on collections, late nights, working Saturday mornings, and in-experienced managers is awful. 24% interest that people just can't afford to pay back. Selling pointless insurances that take APR up to 35+% on loans.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Be more professional. There is a reason the turnover rate is atrocious.
