Former Employee – worked at Mario Tricoci Hair Salon & Day Spa full-time for more than 10 years
Pros – The training program is great and once you've completed it, spent your two years there, if you decide to leave, almost any salon will take you. MT offers all the continuing ed you need with out having to go outside the company. You truly learn from those that developed the training program and they are always up on the new trends. They truly want their employees for life.
Cons – It is a retail driven company. If your not a salesperson and don't sell at least one product to each client that sits in your chair, you'll never move up on their shuffle list. If your single, the insurance isn't that great, I found it in my own, cheaper and better. MT wants their employees and clients for life. Meaning regardless of if you recruited the client on your own accord without MT's promos and advertising, that client is Mario's. you will never have access to your client list, addresses and phone number, which safe guards them but you lose if you ever decide to leave. And if you decide to leave and you're looking for a reference, forget it. It is company policy that they will not allow them to say anything positive or negative. Good luck especially if your looking to switch careers.
Advice to Senior Management – I understand from a business aspect why everything is set up the way it is but the company policy to not allow references is unacceptable. I loved working for the company and left on good terms, now I know that eliminates me from employee for life but your policy eliminates me from continuing to be a guest along with my wife, who loved having her color done there.

Pros – Applying makeup, great skin care lines, having set appointments with clients, salon services, set schedule, flexibility.
Cons – Complete lack of communication. Lots of messy situations with clients due to poor scheduling of clients between the salons and call center. The company does not seem to care about the makeup department. This company does not pay you for your hard work, . They have unaffordable benefits. Their polices tend to work against having success. Since they do not pay fairly, there is a high turnover rate plus they do not attract qualified people to take care of the clients who are paying a lot of money for service. Big fail.
Advice to Senior Management – If you want competent employees, pay them accordingly and treat them well. If you want happy clients invest in their experience. Stop using cheap solutions.

Current Employee – been working at Mario Tricoci Hair Salon & Day Spa full-time for more than a year
Pros – Fabulous environment to work in! You are constantly surrounded with the latest beauty trends and receive incredible discounts.
Cons – Management is completely ignorant of staff and their needs. High rate of turnover too so always new managers and front desk staff.
The hours are rough. Being in the salon industry, you are required to work nights and weekends. Working full time to them can be between 30-40 hours, so you have to fight for hours.
TERRIBLE PAY FOR THE WORK YOU ACTUALLY DO.
Advice to Senior Management – Pay attention to the wants and needs of your employees! They are vital to the salon and it is important that they are happy!

Pros – They focus on improving your skills as well as professionalism and cleanliness. Beautiful location.
Cons – They take a whole lot as far as commission for all the work YOU do. Unfortunately, any negative activity is noticed and highly overshadowed by anything positive. Unfairness and favoritism is very common.
Advice to Senior Management – Some managers are great. Others need to get off their high horse. Your not a god.

Pros – *During downtime, you're encouraged to swap services
* Free samples of products
* The company hires many people with different backgrounds and abilities
Cons – During an interview, prospective employees are given the impression that you will get "lots of guests". Not true. There exists a twisted sorority-like tier of booking where even if you have plenty of availability, you will not be utilized because of "fairness" to existing employees.
This is poor business practice due to great, fresh, educated talent being wasted. There also seems to be an incredible amount of asinine favoritism that exists in booking that occurs in the spa. The spa also needs to reevaluate their business model to match with the recession.
More spa guests are leaving and visiting other more affordable, newer spas that cater to the new
recessionistas, people, particularly women, who have higher tastes, disposable income, but who also have become more conscience when price points have become unrealistic for spa treatments in the past five years.
This is ESPECIALLY important when you consider hiring new people due to the incredible amount of high pressure selling that is expected with the positions. First you hire new employees and turn around and deny them work because other techs/therapists aren't booked yet? Right....
The standard minimum wage vs. commission with the legal contract that deters you from working elsewhere is pretty common, but the fact that it lasts for a year is unfortunate. Read those contracts and take it to a lawyer before you sign ANYTHING. I wish I did.
Guests are actually annoyed with the amount of sales pitches that are required with every service. It cheapens the relationships that we attempt to forge with our guests.
Advice to Senior Management – For the sake of running the business into another generation, PLEASE, PLEASE, PLEASE review your spa practices. The salon seems to be doing great, but the spa portion needs an incredible amount of work. This 1980's draconian model is a joke.

Pros – Great employees, competant staff, great products (Hair, skin and nails)
Cons – Low comission, abuse from clients, not fair management, no one to express concerns or ideas.
Advice to Senior Management – Pick better managers that are qualified for the job, not some young person who can care less of their staff and wants to just receive a paycheck and go home.

Pros – Discounts (but even those are not the great)
Co-workers (most of the people who work in the RC are great, hard workers)
Relaxed atmosphere most of the time after corporate leaves or don't even bother to come in to the office that day.
Cons – ~The management treats us like workhorses. We usually end up doing a lot of their work for them while they sit around drinking coffee.
~We are SEVERELY under staffed! If one person calls in sick we are over run with calls.
~The other employees at the salons HATE us. We try to field all the crazies for them and only transfer clients when it is absolutely necessary.
~We have a business dress code to sit in a cubical all day.
~We are paid LESS and are MORE stressed than any other "call center."
~The new computer system runs slower than molasses and we get blamed.
Advice to Senior Management – Please hire some more workers asap! We need help and we need it now.
Fix the new computer system before we lose more clients due to how slow and un-user friendly it is.
Show some respect and gratitude for how hard we all work for you.
Help us when it is busy...Get on the phones too!
