I worked at MarkLogic full-time for more than a year
Pros – Growing company means more opportunities for career growth. The recruiting strategy aims to recruit smart, resourceful people who work hard and get along well with others. The company is very innovative, and the MarkLogic Server product is one of the best software platforms that I have worked with in almost two decades in the software field. The company emphasizes training, conferences, and other events to help employees learn and help them develop strong working relationships.
Cons – For consultants, travel and commuting can be extensive. Large workload.. Some middle managers are inflexible and not employee-friendly, but others are more flexible and employee-friendly.
Advice to Senior Management – Employees work very hard; please give them more flexibility in scheduling and work locations.
Yes, I would recommend this company to a friend – I'm optimistic about the outlook for this company

Pros – World-class technology and technologists
True leadership from CEO
Wonderful customers
Real revenue - clear business objectives.
Cons – Not opensource, many customers use of MarkLogic is secret or proprietary.
Tight engineering culture - keep up or get left behind.
Pretty tightly organized and managed - you will be busy all the time.
Advice to Senior Management – Expand low-end offerings so more people can use MarkLogic. Get the word out to the broader community about REST, Java, PhP.

Pros – Good coworkers. Challenging work. Reasonable compensation.
Cons – So little communication from the top. Employees are kept in the dark on how the company is doing and the direction it is heading in. No VP of Engineering.

Pros – With the recent addition of Gary Bloom we now have a CEO that will get us all on the same page and lead us towards building huge value for our customers and the company.
Cons – Although our products/technology is amazing we were a rudderless ship.
Advice to Senior Management – Continue to communicate to the direction we are headed to our customers/prospects and employees. (and add free lunch everyday)

I worked at MarkLogic
Pros – Small company with lots of very bright and knowledgeable people. Plenty of exposure to top management. Plenty opportunities for growth.
Cons – There are no explicit cons to working for Mark Logic. That being said, it is what you make it. If you work hard you will be rewarded. If you're lazy, you won't last long.
Advice to Senior Management – Keep doing what you are doing. Maybe expand into other products besides the core server. Keep hiring talented people and you'll be successful.

I have been working at MarkLogic
Pros – I've never said this about a company before: The best thing about this company is the management.
The CEO is one of the best I've seen. A truly insightful guy with a very communicative and human manner. He commands the best type of respect from his people.
The founder is another bright spot: He's extremely knowledgeable, focused on results, and is engaged in every aspect of product development.
The company produces very usable and solid software that is constantly making inroads into new markets.
I feel very lucky to be working at this company.
Cons – Limited benefit options, but that's pretty typical for start-ups.
Advice to Senior Management – Keep doing what you're doing.

I have been working at MarkLogic full-time for more than 3 years
Pros – The former CEO (Ken Bado) was completely out of his depth, replaced by someone (Gary Bloom) who knows the waters well and is navigating the company towards success.
Technology is several years ahead of the curve in terms of quality and features
Excellent Coworkers, mature grown-ups
Cons – Lost far too many good people during previous CEO reign
Enterprise marketplace is in high state of flux and redefinition
NoSQL marketplace nascent and emerging
Desperately needs Open Source 'connection'
Advice to Senior Management – *All* your engineers are getting tapped by your freshly VC'd competitors, flush with money to offer higher levels of compensation.
Get an open source 'story' ASAP.

I worked at MarkLogic
Pros – Strong technology, pay very well.
Cons – Board deperate to grow, but can't find a way to do it, so they have been thorugh multiple C-suites. Huge attrition of some very smart people. Every few months more people go. Can't settle on a direction or get away from core markets to become a real enterprise software company.
Advice to Senior Management – Stop losing people - settle on a direction, stick to it for at least 3 years. Fire most of the board and replace them with people who know what to do. Stop blaming employees for board failures.
No, I would not recommend this company to a friend – I'm not optimistic about the outlook for this company
