Not the WORST, but not too good either. Like most, everyone is holding onto a paycheck for dear life.

    Pros

    Cons

CEO is a narcissist. Think's he is funny and charming and he is NOT, he is an idiot with deep pockets from his wife's family.

    Advice to Management

Get rid of Rob, he is a joke.

    Pros

The pay is decent, the location is decent.

    Cons

The leadership of this company is very risk-averse -- and also cheap. There is no plan for how to improve the business model, which is based on a 20th Century premise: research various industries and write in-depth reports that are then sold to investors. Nowadays, anyone with a hi-speed internet connection can do their own research on an industry.

    Advice to Management

There are now tons of data-mining and analytics companies that can do this same function (preparing business insight reports) faster and with better intelligence than marketresearch.com. Probably the best thing to be done is to partner with some developers who can build a better data machine than what exists now ("analysts" reading tons of reports.) Also, the leadership needs to invest in a better office space, the Rockville Pike is depressing location, and the building is shabby.

    Pros

    company values are great.
    Compensation is OK.
Work / Life balance is OK.

    Cons

Practically no promotions since they are not based on merit but rather on who sucks up better.
No salary increases and no bonuses.
Guidance is weak always because of weak management.

    Advice to Management

Please don't say anything that you cannot do.
Make the employees feel that they belong there.

    Pros

As a free lance writer, the topics are numerous and varied. You can use your technical expertise in a whole new way. Each assignment was a 3 -4 month stint but it is difficult to string them together to make for continuous work. However, some writers do.

    Cons

The guidance is weak at times, the pressure to produce the document in sequence is demanding. Once a chapter is submitted, it usually can't be changed.

    Advice to Management

A mentoring of authors would be nice.

    Pros

    Good operational organization
    Job stability
    Breadth of services offered

    Cons

    Lack of performance incentives
    Poor management direction/commitment
    Poor employee morale
    Lack of professional/financial growth opportunities
Lack of pressure to deliver results
    Lack of product development strategy
HR policies dominated by control, no employee empowerment
Top management not held accountable for lack of results (the older managers are protected, the new managers get the blame)
    Below-market salaries, and no bonuses

    Advice to Management

Shake up the top management by bringing in new people and replacing old thinking
    Listen to your customers' needs
Empower your managers and employees (trust, delegation, no fear of mistakes)

    Pros

It is a friendly environment. People are not snobs mostly. It is in a very good location. Good work - you will learn a lot and you get the option to update your skill set as well while you are there.

    Cons

Sometimes it becomes cut throat. People get laid off a lot. Unless you are extremely valuable or you work for dirt cheap the chances of lay off are high. They lie to your face so there is not much to say there.

    Advice to Management

Please stop lying. Don't say things that you cannot possibly do and then back off when it is needed the most.

    Pros

    Market opportunity/niche and product
    Many caring underappreciated employees

    Cons

Egotistical and very weak Senior Management.
    Antiquated way of thinking.
    Career opportunities
    Morale

    Advice to Management

Stop thinking about yourself and build the company. Swallow your pride, bring in an outsider and watch the company reach its goals. Very sad what has gone on over there for 5+ years, again look at yourselves and do whats right for the company and its investors. Too much opportunity to continue to fail.

    Pros

If you're driven, creative and self-starting this can be a good place to work as management tends to give free rein to its employees so long as they produce.
Also, the company is still small enough you can get to know all the employees, and people seem to really care about each other.

    Cons

Owner is very self-absorbed and expects employees to fawn all over him, which can be extremely unprofessional at times.
Upper management has been there a long time and seems only interested in drawing paychecks as opposed to really innovating and growing the company. But this may be the owner's fault who is more attuned to his own voice than anyone else's.

    Advice to Management

    Innovate.
