I worked at MarketStar as a contractor for less than a year

    Pros

Fast paced hiring, excellent pay, excellent training

    Cons

I saw no cons to this company or this particular position. Everything was explained to me up front and this is exactly what happened. Open communication and no issues for someone that is experienced with contact work or brand ambassador positions.

    Pros

MarketStar is a great place to work, great benefits, flexible work schedule, they care about families and want you to succeed.

    Cons

Pay isn't as competitive as it should be so its hard to keep the best employees. This causes high attrition.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

    Pay your employees more.

Lacking vision from the top down...not the company that Alan Hall built.

    I worked at MarketStar full-time

    Pros

Good people in the trenches, great clients to work with and great technologies developed for the company, by the company.

    Cons

Don't plan on retiring there. They've eliminated anyone who helped build the company and loyal to the Alan Hall Brand.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Get rid of the President/CEO as fast as you can and return the company to being a visionary leader in the industry which leads the top companies in the world to prosperity. Forget this mindset that companies based in Ogden Utah must be moved to California or other markets to maintain their lead. Read the paper and see the number of companies coming to Utah along with the number of start-ups who are finding success globally.

I have been working at MarketStar full-time for more than 3 years

    Pros

Generous PTO and compensation. Clean work environment. MarketStar ate a lot of the increased cost for benefits when rates went up so that the employees could retain approximately the same take home pay.

    Cons

Since most teams are client-based, your job is at the mercy of how well that client is doing in their respective markets.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Recruiting always claims to be there to help those that have been laid off from a team as part of a downsizing, but never seems to call afterwards. A lot of great team members have not returned to MarketStar after a RIF because of the difficulty to get a call back.

I have been working at MarketStar full-time for more than a year

    Pros

I enjoy my job content, a lot of management shakeup recently but I think it will all turn out for the better.

    Cons

Compensation isn't great compared to industry standards. The BI department has become the catch all for lack of operations managers, which can make your job challenging.

I have been working at MarketStar

    Pros

    - Good pay for a call center
    - They do a lot of activities during work (auctions, BBQs, etc)

    Cons

    - They promise room to grow in the company after a year at your current position (false). Once you reach your year mark and want to apply to other departments they provide all sorts of reasons why you cant. Example: used all your Paid Time Off and need to accrue more, your team is not full, you dont have a "green scorecard" for the past 3 months. Meaning if you miss one metric during the week the 3 months starts over.
    - They treat you like children. If you do well they give you candy ice cream, and $5 subway gift cards
    - Management is very young and have no clue how to manage
    - Religion is one of their "4 Pillars", if you are not LDS you feel very out of place

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

    - Be clear about advancement opportunities
    - Treat employees like adults and not 12 year olds. Candy doesn't motivate anyone.

I worked at MarketStar part-time for less than a year

    Pros

Competitive pay relative to "normal" part-time retail jobs.
Reasonable hours, working 20 hours a week doesn't mean 4 hours/5 days, but instead means 6-8 hours/3 days. Leaves time for school.

    Cons

Lack of training prior to working with minimal explanation of tasks.
Co-workers were very lazy due to lack of proper supervision.
Unpaid work after-hours filling out reports.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Training staff at least a little bit more than showing them a website may be useful in the future.
Having a veteran employee present at a store with no current employees for at least one day would help transition new employees.

I have been working at MarketStar full-time for more than a year

    Pros

Flexible daily schedule. Great vacation time off the bat. Mostly low stress. If you do your job, you'll be left alone.

    Cons

Job really depends on the client you work for and the management up top. Working weekends was required for the program I worked for. Communication was very poor at times.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Improve communication. Improve moral by offering perks (extra weekend off, extra PTO day, ect.).

I have been working at MarketStar part-time for more than a year

    Pros

Competitive pay, set your own schedule, easy to access the required reporting. Pay is concise and regular.

    Cons

inexperienced management, the IT department could use some direction from the field on criteria for reporting, it is evident that most reports go un-read.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Assess the skills of your employees more closely instead of treating everyone like they are a newbie. Recruit from with in for brand advocates. Clear communication from the managers to the field is often lacking.

    Pros

You get to work with great companies. It pays very well. You are not micromanaged and get to have fun while you work.

    Cons

Projects can be short. Wish that the job was year round but it is up to the client for how long the project runs. Would be nice to have better communication on when the project ir returning if at all.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

    Communication is key.
