I worked at Marriott part-time for less than a year

    Pros

Great team, good training, kind of repetitive and basic but overall you go in knowing that you are ready.

    Cons

None too many. The back of the house is kind of weird. The food in the cafeteria was pretty terrible too. I can't complain though, it was super cheap. Like $1 per meal.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Allow employees to switch departments sooner, and ease up on the probationary period.

I have been working at Marriott full-time for more than a year

    Pros

Great Benefits! Outside the golf industry, there are a variety of brands, locations, and job types to choose from (Hotel side).

    Cons

Pay is probably level with the competition, but raises are not anything to brag about. Also, promotions don't seem to be tied to performance. Moving up requires moving out, and that's on you.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Provide more guidance to potential management candidates. Tighten the disciplinary measures...7 times an employee can be more than 7 minutes late, and they still have a job?

I worked at Marriott full-time for more than 5 years

    Pros

Great benefits, decent amount of pto. The discounted hotel stays alone make working there worth it. It's a great company with a great vision.

    Cons

Lots of red tape to cut through to get something fixed/purchased. Working in the banquet department means working LOTS of extra hours, whether you like it or not, but most don't mind because of the $.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Keep treating your employees well, it's a recipe for success.

I worked at Marriott full-time for more than a year

    Pros

    Beautiful hotel and great food

    Cons

Upper management was complicit in breaking company policy and when caught; they threw lower management team members under the bus to save their own jobs.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Perform a moral gut check on yourselves; stop playing with other people's lives. Live the culture and values you so proudly represent; walk your talk.

I worked at Marriott full-time for more than 10 years

    Pros

I Loved working for this company. I was sad to see my position eliminated due to corporate reorganization in June of 2011.

    Cons

Corporate restructuring led me to lose my position after 15 years with the company. It was sad and unfortunate to have to start over elsewhere after 15 years.

I worked at Marriott part-time for more than 3 years

    Pros

I worked in the Fine Dining and Bar area at the Marriott. My manager was one of the sweetest people to work under. HR were very helpful. Hotel benefits were awesome, if you wanted to go on vacation and use your Marriott discount. Mr. Marriott will come in and greet his employees once a year or so, very nice and genuine person. We had an awesome GM that was always in a good mood.

    Cons

I was sad when another hotel brand bought the hotel, had it not been for school, I would have transferred to another Marriott hotel. After a the hotel changed its name, the GM was replaced and the hotel went down after that.
