Pros
Employee discount, Health Care, Vision, 401k, bonuses and Paid Vacation. All based on your employer. The owners of this Franchise pay most our medical, and vision. Have a matching 401K and were even more generous with my maternity leave and vacations. It's a great team!
Cons
Most are franchisee locations so benefits are based on individual owner. So Raises and promotions are less limited.
Advice to Senior Management
I would like a dental plan. And less black out dates for Employee rates.
Pros
Opportunities abound. There is a place for creativity and ingenuity. Community and global concerns are factors in our culture. Overall, two of the best reasons are the wholesomeness of the organization and the enterprise, and the opportunity that exists due to the clarity of our mission and the leadership. Slackers find their way out the exit doors.
Cons
Our customers and associates are living in the era of rapidly advancing electronic technology. That technology is largely absent in our hotel and work practices. I assume some Marriott's have check-in kiosks, ours does not. We use 20th century radio communication on our property and not for all logical means.
Advice to Senior Management
Not only is the management good but the leadership is as well.
Pros
Marriott offers a good benefits package that is comparable to other hotel companies. In my experience with the company, they are very helpful with your future. Should you choose to continue in a career with Marriott, great care will be taken to guide you to the position you want to achieve. This includes monthy meetings with managers to see how you are progressing, as well as company provided courses (that you care paid to attend) to further your skills and help you down the road. Marriott also has great travel benefits... you can travel anywhere in the world and stay at an associate rate that can be as low as $39.00 a night. Your friends and family are also eligible to receive a discounted rate, they just need a form from your Human Resources department or Manager.
Cons
Like anywhere, there are things about the job that are stressful. Since you are working in the service industry, you will be in contact with many different types of people, with different backgrounds, and different ideas of what service is. You will meet people who are so friendly and easygoing that nothing will bother them, even if you are oversold and they have to stay at a different hotel for the night, they just say they understand and don't care. Then you will have the other extreme where if you don't smile just right they will jump down your throat. You just have to take it in stride and realize that sometimes it isn't even you that sets them off, it could be their bad day that started 12 hours ago.
Advice to Senior Management
I really like my Executive Commitee, they seem to have a handle on what is going on at the hotel. I definitely feel like they appreciate the staff, every month there is some sort of appreciation activity. They keep on top of our GSS and keep the employees in the loop of what is a focus area that needs improvement.
