Pros
great opportunity for advancement through hard work and dedication to the "culture" of Marriott. Excellent benefits as well as competitive salary.
Cons
The major downside from a F&B perspective is that a lot of the operation is a "color by numbers" situation handed down from corporate mandates. Balance of work/life is not all that they promote. Salaried staff often work 12-16hrs a day if need be days at a time.
Advice to Senior Management
For the most part I have no real advise. My Management Team is always available and helpful in any matters I may have concerning my job.
Pros
Very life/work balanced company,
fair
respect and treating the employee with dignity
Cons
wish we had discounts in daycare/fitness
Advice to Senior Management
allow more employee the use of headquarters benefits.
Pros
Career advancement. Benefits. Plenty of opportunities from around the country and the world.
Cons
Pay. Other companies offers competitive pay and benefits.
Pros
Marriott has a wonderful culture. People are very team oriented, supportive and encouraging. They are open to sharing their wealth of knowledge and you know it's a great place when you have so many for-lifers who have climbed the ladder over a span of 20-30 years. You also have great perks - benefits are top notch plus you add in the associate discount for hotels. You can't beat it! Everywhere you go, there's a Marriott hotel so it means growth potential like crazy, plus a footprint you and your family can take advantage of.
Cons
It's a huge, complex company with a lot of bureaucracy but it comes with the territory of being such a large company. Compensation is not in the higher percentile but they make up for it with work/life balance, family emphasis and great benefits.
Advice to Senior Management
Continue to communicate and celebrate in the way that you have. May be time to update HQ's which are a little outdated.
Pros
There are great opportunities for career development and benefits to match them. You are almost always supported by management with any career decisions you make.
Cons
You can not let emotions get in the way of your job. You need to be willing to serve always.
Advice to Senior Management
Keep considering how to best support your line level employees as they are the ones who deal with the guests.
Pros
Beneifit and advancement opportunity are key factories in working for the Marriott.
Cons
Starting pay isn't the great.
Advice to Senior Management
Make sure that your managers have experience than your supervisors.
Pros
HR training and associate improvement
Cons
sophisticated organization. It's very structured, may need to bring more culture for creativity
Pros
Marriott offers a wonderful benefits package and advancement opportunities. The clientele is good with loyal Marriott Reward members. Marriott offers stability.
Cons
Downsides of working at Marriott is that there is more accountability working for corporate. The demands are greater than working for a franchise.
Advice to Senior Management
The training program is sufficient and the managers are very fair with the employees. Everyone works together as a team.
Pros
Friends and Family Discounts, Associate Discounts, meeting interesting people
Cons
Pay isn't as high as I would like it to be.
Pros
The hotel discounts for all members of the staff is one of the best perks of working for Marriott. The job itself, wasn't bad, and they do allow for you to stay and move up. I worked at a franchise location, so I'm sure it really varies a lot by property.
Cons
It probably really varies by property, but at our specific property, the management was new and at times, we knew more about the system than they did and how to interact with the guests, but were never given the credit. I knew it was a temporary position though so it didn't bother me as much as other people who were making it into a career.
Advice to Senior Management
Acknowledge staff who are going above and beyond in their work. If someone is excelling, do not just make short comments here and there, and then take advantage of it, but actually do something so they want to stay!
