I worked at Marriott
Pros – Hours are reasonable, staff is organized, and all departments work well together. Great company to have on a resume, and there are plenty of opportunities for advancement.
Cons – As with any job in the service industry, you will always run into unsatisfied guests who want to direct all of their anger at you. On the upside, you'll learn to tolerate conflict well and solve problems under pressure.
Advice to Senior Management – Sometimes hardworking employees are overlooked while manager's personal favourites are rewarded without merit. Management needs to be more positive to encourage employees and maintain morale.

I have been working at Marriott
Pros – Management is great and fair. Great benefits, 40 hour work week, great people to work with. Everyone helps out with eachother
Cons – Some of the guests that come in can be very demanding and stuck up. The pay is somewhat average. Sometimes expected too much
Advice to Senior Management – To help the staff more often, instead of just delegating every task. Keep supporting your employees, and listen to their suggestions

I worked at Marriott
Pros – Marriott was my very first hotel, so It has a special place in my heart. I enjoyed the inter-departmental training, associates and prestige of the location.
Cons – Worked long hours with little vacation time. Also, constantly being passed over for promotions. Hourly associates valued more than managers.
Advice to Senior Management – Please consider a mentor program for new managers and institute the inter-departmental training to build relationships with associates. The mentor program is a great way for new managers not to feel "lost".

I have been working at Marriott
Pros – Teamwork and great benefits. Good PTO package and great co-workers, make you fill as one big family....
Cons – Management is like us and them, micro manager's that are very lazy and not team players, sometimes very young....You can at times work very long hours with out even a break or lunch....Once you are with Marriott for years, you will max out in your hourly rate and not get an annual raise. Most annual raises are 30 cents, and you wont even get that, your wage is frozen at that rate until the market shows it has went up. All pay is market driven and averaged. Poor for your dedicated employees.
Advice to Senior Management – Be a team player and practice what you preach to your staff. Everything is number driven and management always looking to better their scores at any price.....At times they get away with rudeness...And do all the AOS surveys really matter, to much time spent there.

I have been working at Marriott
Pros – Benefits are OK, the best being the amount of leave you receive, but you have to use all leave in the current calendar year (or lose) and that's the bait and switch. Astoundingly, the 401K match is still in effect. Will it last into 2010? Who knows?
Cons – IT work @ MI can be a death march. Tons of off-hours work mandated by "rules" concocted by clueless management drones, even more fearful for their miserable jobs than us worker bees.
Recent economic situation gave IT management the wherewithall to not just cut to the bone, but to sever appendages that will never grow back. So the workload and off-hours work and support just increases and increases.
The unsaid attitude of management is: "If you don't like it...at least you have a job!!".
No money for technical training, no money for conferences, no money for professional development on any level, just work, work, work days/nights/weekends.
Staff layoffs have left IT staffing at a paper-thin level so be ready whenever, where ever, to drop what your doing and respond to the disaster du jour.
In case you haven't guessed by now, work/life balance here totally sucks.
Advice to Senior Management – Well, the first words of advice would be to junk the entire IT management team and start over with a sprinkling of managers who have experience at other companies and are under age 60 so they have a chance to relate, on whatever pathetic level, to staff that by and large are under 40 years of age.
If IT management thinks they are going to take Marriott to a "global" footing after decimating the staffing levels - well we'll see. When the economy improves and IT staff start a mass exodus to companies that aren't 7x24 hell-holes, the folly of Marriott's short-sighted IT staffing strategy will put them once again, behind the technology eight ball for many years to come.

I have been working at Marriott
Pros – room discount is nice to use.
Cons – you will regret working here if you are in the least bit interested in hospitality
Advice to Senior Management – every year, they ask for feedback on how to make this place better, they never do anything about it.

I worked at Marriott
Pros – Marriott was a very good company that didn't seem to take advantage of it's associates. They focused on a balance of keeping associates happy, guest happy and owners happy which isn't always the focus with other companies.
Cons – Too by the book on policies and procedures which sometimes made doing the job difficult. Getting promoted seemed to be deterimed by your years in service and relationship with executive boss rather then your performance
Advice to Senior Management – Overall, just keeping working hard to promote the right people and taking care of the associates.
