I worked at Marriott full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

I loved meeting new people, making food food for our customers and serving them drinks when ordered in our bistro. I learned how to work with people and I learned a lot when I had to fill in on front desk when the staff was short. I also learned a lot by talking with customers that was in town visiting for different meetings.

    Cons

My cons were we never got a raise or appreciation for all the hard work. I still did my job because that is what was required of me. We would be short staffed a lot so sometimes no off days. We also had no benefits

    Advice to Management

Management could have been better through communication instead of letters left to tell u what the problems if any needed to be resolved. It was at a point that the integrity of the professional manager was not in order and they have a lack of empathy to personal situations.

I worked at Marriott full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

Insurance such as health, dental, and vision are provided. Also discounts on monthly metro tickets, and access to company store where somewhat of a discount are provided by other retail companies. One of the biggest perks is discount on room rates at other Marriott properties.

    Cons

At a large property, it's hard to be consistent when you're department is on a budget. As a result, staff is overworked with long hours and heavy workload. You definitely need to know someone in order to get your foot in the door. In addition, the structure at this company is very political.

    Advice to Management

Consider how busy the hotel would be prior to delegating budget and forecasting. Some departments do need more help than other departments. "Work smarter, not harder" only works with the management's support.

I worked at Marriott part-time (Less than a year)

    Pros

I worked for the courtyard by Marriott the hotels are beautiful and all the staff and hotel guests are so nice. The pay is great, the benefits are great and the perks are amazing. You get access to the company website and can get discounts for anything and everywhere. Plus being with them you can transfer anywhere in the World to live and work and you get discounts on rooms for any Marriott chain as low as $30 a night. Best job to ever have they provide uniforms and food and you can make crazy tips. They treat there guests and there employees like gold.

    Cons

Very fast, always be pleasant and follow the rules.

    Advice to Management

When you have a good employee and they show you they have great potential try to work with them. Hotel rules are the rules but if its for something so small and stupid, termination shouldn't be the only result.
