I worked at Marriott full-time (more than 10 years)

    Pros

Quality of product and the majority of associates, growth opportunity, benefits & perks, company culture, open 24/7 with a wide range of positions and hours, exposure to so may other opportunities. This is a company that truly believes that if you take care of your associates, they'll in return take care of the company [ie. the customer!].

    Cons

Open 24/7 holiday or not, someone has to work and the same political issues you'd face in any other job.

I worked at Marriott full-time (more than an year)

    Pros

good availability for grow at other locations
    benefit package is pretty good

    Cons

    - very micromanaged,
    - cut-throat,
    - too PC friendly in HR. A co-worker was fired because he said the word "vulva" in a sentence. One male employee who didn't like my co-worker reported this to HR because thought that some female employees would be offended. When HR asked the females none were, in fact most didn't remember. They let him go anyway for sexual harassment.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

stop shifting and trading budget $$$ between depts. so much. It penalizes efficiently run outlets while propping up sloppy/lazy/poor managed ones.

I worked at Marriott full-time (more than 5 years)

    Pros

There is not much to dislike about this company, so long as you understand that it is a business and not everything is going to go in your favor. If you are objective, it is a great place to pursue a career. Many opportunities for advancement, all over the world. Nice travel perks as well, with great room discounts.

    Cons

Know that there are Marriott franchises (which aren't owned by Marriott), and Marriott owned properties. The franchises don't always play by the same guidelines as corporate. The corporate owned facilities are well run, and maintained. There is a lot of attention paid to payroll, and staffing levels. If you are one who likes to get paid to do nothing, not a great place. Also, I am not a rah rah person, and there are maybe a few too many dollars spent on employee "moral builders". Not saying that that is bad for all. Overall, there aren't many things to not like, especially if you enjoy traveling, and you have to factor that into your wage, as they aren't the highest paying company on the planet.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Maybe take a little of the money allocated to employee programs, and increase wages. About all that I can think of.

I have been working at Marriott full-time (more than 5 years)

    Pros

The benifits are amazing, travel discounts, health insurance, retirement and there is a lot of room for growth if you are willing to relocate.

    Cons

Upper management does not respect your work/ life balance. Most of the managers that I have had are older and no matter how they treat you, they seem to be untouchable. The hours are long and the starting pay is below par for the job you are expected to perform.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Bring a younger workforce in and get the older tenured managers who have little respect for new ideas and are detached from the day to day operations to retire.

I have been working at Marriott

    Pros

Marriott has a very family centered corporate culture. Employees seem to stay with Marriott for many years, which I think is a true testament to Marriott's ideals of promoting employees within the Marriott Brands.

    Cons

The income potential seems to be lower than the competitiors. When working at a smaller Marriott property you are given more responsiblitly within your job function without the reward of higher pay. The other downside is accruing PTO as you work instead of having 2 or 3 weeks that you can take any time after your 90 days of employment with the company.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

I would suggest that Marriott re-evaulate the pay ranges for all postions continuously to be competitive with other companies in the hospitality industry. I also would suggest giving a standard 2 or 3 weeks off after the completion of an employee's first 90 days instead of the accural of PTO time througout the year.
