Great Company... for the most part

Director (Current Employee)

I have been working at Marriott Vacation Club full-time for more than 8 years

ProsWhen the company is doing well the employees are treated very well with terrific incentives, development opportunities and a genuine culture of growth and betterment for the employees.

ConsWhen the $$ isn't flowing, all that goes out the window but they try to put on the facade that it still exists. It is not fun to be a manager/leader during times like this as you feel you are always faking it till you make it. For some this isn't hard.. but for those who are innately genuine it can be very tough.

Advice to Senior ManagementThink more before you act. So many decisions were based on greed and $ rather than putting the time in look at all the angles before jumping into new projects, product offerings, systems and/or divisions. This practice of course is not reserved for MVCI, but when they say they are one way, and they act in a totally opposite fashion.. it is going to have an effect on the overall culture of a company in the long term. To be fair my scores would have been much higher in the first few years of my career with MVCI.. they definitely eroded along with the culture overtime. I would like to think it eroded as opposed to a general naivety on my part. I would like to think they do have the ability and some select leaders that could pull it back up to where it was at one time.

Excellent company, great career growth, solid leadership and structure

Anonymous Employee (Former Employee)

I worked at Marriott Vacation Club full-time for more than 10 years

ProsThe leadership is top notch. Very thorough thinkers that attract and keep some of the most talented minds in the field. The company culture is rock solid. Work perks are wonderful...discounted stays at Marriott, 401K, etc.

ConsCareer growth may require relocation. There are no other cons to add to the list. Seriously.

Advice to Senior ManagementIt has been an honor and a pleasure to work with the team. May our paths cross again.

Marriott vacation club only cars about money

Anonymous Employee (Former Employee)

I worked at Marriott Vacation Club part-time

Prosa nice associates lounge but you can't eat there

ConsTo much drama. They don't really train you on selling. There 2 week training is a joke. You spend your day calling former Marriott guests trying to sell vacation packages.

It was a mediocre company with typical ups and downs.

Anonymous Employee (Former Employee)

I worked at Marriott Vacation Club full-time for more than 3 years

ProsJob security and hotel discounts are the two best reasons to work for Marriott. It is next to impossible to get fired from Marriott unless you have REALLY screwed something up multiple times. The discounts you get at other Marriotts when you travel are unbeatable. They also match up to the first 4.5% of your 401k contributions, which is great.

ConsI have worked at multiple different Marriott brands over a 4 year period. They have all had the same problems. Management is greedy and is much more concerned with making themselves look good than helping their team learn and grow. They claim there are so many career opportunities, but that is only if you suck up to the right person, not if you do the job better than other candidates.

Advice to Senior ManagementGreat managers teach their team how to be better at their job than they are. They do not micromanage and discourage. They give praise when deserved and encourage their team to excel. Most importantly, they lead by example.

Sales Executive (Former Employee)

I worked at Marriott Vacation Club full-time for more than 5 years

ProsGreat support, managers, and pay... if you are a performer

Conswhen desperate for sales, they will bring in the "old-school" timeshare boys club to take over. the stereotypical timeshare salesman persona

Great first job

Guest Services/Front Desk (Current Employee)
Newport Coast, CA

I have been working at Marriott Vacation Club full-time for more than a year

ProsGood starting wage for first front desk job, great coworker and a great culture. People here really learn to stick together.

ConsNo real movement unless you are willing to move to another state. There are very little positions to fill if you are looking to start a carrer. They have a MIT program but only availible to hospitality majors, so business majors are excluded

Advice to Senior ManagementNeed better growth plans for promising employees so they dont look to leave
