Pros
My property has a family feel to it and not once have I dreaded coming to work because of who I was going to see that day. Management is easy to talk to and open to new ideas and ways of improving our guests experiences. For anyone who cares about growing with the company and is proactive, the opportunities here are vast.
Cons
Like every family, the workplace has its share of drama but that's to be expected everywhere you go.
Advice to Senior Management
When making decisions, be sure to gather input from people affected at the functional level to ensure smooth operations/transitions for employees and guests alike.
Pros
the brand supporting trust and credibility for vacation ownership sales, talent within the ranks and continuous learning
Cons
the push for deals and project perfomance allowed for poor financial planning, protection of non- performing employees
Advice to Senior Management
Listen to sales people and customers They have the answers to current issues. Figure out what doesn't work and don't be afraid to make changes to current models or to make investments in an improved customer experience.
Pros
The benefits are really great. Full medical and big discounts on rooms. They really know how to treat their employees.
Cons
Most of the hotels are in areas that are seasonal, so alot of the jobs are only there for half of the year.
Advice to Senior Management
You guys are doing a great job. Keep of the great work. There is a good reason why Marriott is one of the best hotels in the world.
Pros
Good work/life balance
Nice benefits for traveling [though this may change when spinoff from MI happens]
Fast Paced atmosphere
Generally nice and pleasant coworkers
Cons
Purely a numbers game
Ethics?
Commission-heavy atmosphere with difficult to attain triggers
Arbitrary disbursement of coaching, leads, and potential customers
Favoritism
Inconsistent treatment of workers
Rigid adherence to 'letter of the law' management principles
Little site-level/local level power; inept management
Advice to Senior Management
Make it less of a pure numbers game and treat the employees on the sales and marketing side like they actually matter; promote based on skill and knowledge rather than "good old boys" club or abject favoritism
Pros
People were great. They are all very friendly and nice to place to work.
Cons
It's the same thing anywhere you go but the managers and the head of department just don't do good job.
Advice to Senior Management
Go back to the basics.
Pros
Discounts on stays within brand
Cons
Rude people , rude sales staff
Advice to Senior Management
Speak to workers that are below you
Pros
They really take a personal affection to their employees. Always have an open door policy and they really engourage and help you out if you are trying to move up within the company.
Cons
Not sure there is any. It is a good company. The only thing is that they do pay a little less than most companies, but they make up for it in the benefits that you get.
Advice to Senior Management
work on communicating with other departments better so everyone is on the same page. Sometimes one department has no knowledge of what the other one is doing and it can look bad.
Pros
Marriott is the cream of the crop in it's industry. Great benefits and "total compensation". Top performers are given autonomy and leeway without too much micromanagement. Good balance between work and personal life. Gave me opportunities to travel and live in some great locations throughout the U.S. I always felt appreciated and respected by management and my peers.
Cons
Marriott and most other companies in this industry have halted any new development or growth. It is currently spinning of its timeshare component into a separate company. It isn't so much an issue right now with Marriott specifically, more with the industry as a whole in tough economic times.
Advice to Senior Management
There are too many layers. Information from associate to the top or from the top to associate may get translated, censored, or withheld at the discretion of middle management. This can create difficulty in getting ideas and creative initiatives implemented. It could take years before a good idea comes to actual fruition.
Pros
Travel benefits, the people you work with, beautiful environment & the hours.
Cons
Pay, the draw, time off during holidays, unreasonable budgets, & tour flow.
Advice to Senior Management
Keep the solid performers and pay better, while letting them keep their draw so there is no confusion on pay.
Pros
Great advancement, small team, personal team, good benefits,
Cons
not much money, not great hours
