Pros
Meet and work with brilliant talented people
Good development opportunities but you have to chase them
Systemic dynamic org that allows you to find your ideal place
Benefits designed to make you feel valued
Cons
Sometimes bureaucratic
Living inside of the company bubble makes some blind to market realities and resistant to decomplexity
Would love to have freedom of choice of tech tools
Advice to Senior Management
It's surprising to see the speed of org changes and adaptation expected with changing managers yet the slow integration of technological innovation in the office. Adopting late has more disadvantages than advantages.
Change that adds value should be integrated across the board into company culture.
Pros
Great visionary senior leaders
Exposure to global community
Best in class marketing school
Flexible working hours
Excellent pay&ben
Great team of professionals
Cons
Getting too big
The working environment is stressful too often
Lack of subordinates for mid tier managers
Advice to Senior Management
Thanks
Pros
free candy and the ability to connect with folks from all cultures
Cons
Most folks are uptight and work in silo's even though they claim to be working together. There is a sense of mistrust all around even when folks show a smile. Very few are authentic and genuine in what they do and who they are. It's all about the bottom line and making upper management shine to the leadership team. This atmosphere has increased over the years.
Advice to Senior Management
Remember where you came from and treat folks with respect. Foster growth not demise. Put personality aside and focus on the work and progress.
Pros
In the beginning the store was okay, more than tolerable based on previous retail jobs. They used to start at 11 dollars an hour and the coworkers are pretty decent. They also used to have set schedules but I believe that has changed.
Cons
There is no respect between managers and associates. Since I have worked there I know that the pay has gone down, set schedules are a thing of the past and even communication between management is poor. Turn over is pretty high and for a store in times square where being busy is a way of life, communication and employee morale should drastically be improved
Advice to Senior Management
Do not take your employees opinions and their schedules for granted and you may have more company loyalty overall.
Pros
Good pay
flexible hours
good discount
fun
making friends is easy and lots of chocolate
Cons
not much recognition from managers but you will love your supervisor
Advice to Senior Management
try working as replenishment, i had fun and had hours
Pros
Good pay and benifits. Best group of people to work with as a whole. Jobs not labor intensive, pretty laid back.
Cons
Rotating shift. Finding out on Friday morning that you no longer have a weekend. 50/50 on getting good competent manager or incompetent idiot.
Pros
A good place with the latest concepts in work place.
If you show initiatives & if the line manager is good for you.You can learn & grow.
Cons
Promotion & growth not based on performance but on the basis of line manager words.
Politics
Advice to Senior Management
Look on the results & contributions done for reviewing a employ not to the words of line manager.
Pros
High level of autonomy; very good pay and benefits; Most positions are challenging and the caliber of the associates is generally very high. There are opportunities to advance and associates are encouraged to make cross-functional moves.
Cons
HR department is a weak link in the organization. The review process is chaotic as is the hiring process. The compensation package is overly complicated.
Advice to Senior Management
Reduce the number of organizational changes. Sometimes the re-orgs seem like flavor-of-the-month.
Pros
great if you have a good and supportive manager. Once strategy was clear and we knew what we do, all was better !
Cons
Once you are two big you, the communication is more difficult as well as sharp and clear and consistent ideas and directions
Pros
The brands....but that is only if we can produce and ship them, which is rare. Alas if we cut orders you still better make your number, that is no excuse!
Cons
Getting rid of the people who actually worked and hiring who they feel are "young up and comers".
The good old boys club, seriously people can you be more obvious???
None of the systems ever work, can we just sell like we used to? So many tools but it is not about selling anymore. No face time with our customers.
Brokers - too many jobs going to the Brokers because they are cheaper but they have too much on their plate.
Mars is not the place that it used to be.
Advice to Senior Management
The amount of people utilizing the counseling and HR tools provided for stress should be a sign of the issues within the organization. We are provided so many stress management tools, why not just try to work on the cause so we do not need counseling sessions, conference calls and newsletters.
