ProsCompensation, independence, reputation, opportunity, and integrity.

ConsLack of vision, leadership and resources. Little collaboration between business units.

Advice to Senior ManagementAssume a leadership position, don't just verbalize the role.

ProsVacation time is great for the Undergrad entry level program.
    Very much a 9-5:30 job.
    Client interaction early.
    Exposure to many different industries.
Would be a great starting point if you plan to remain in the insurance industry.

ConsTraining is terrible, there are no hard technical skills learned on the job that are transferable outside of the insurance industry.
A lot of busy work, no actual skills training.
The program itself and your development greatly depends on your direct supervisor. Not all are even decent at teaching or developing others.
As mentioned in other reviews - promotions, schedule accommodations, expense accounts, Amex cards -are dependent on who you know and how much they like you.

Advice to Senior ManagementAttempt to retain, challenge and promote youth with potential.

ProsBetter than Unemployment... The people are generally good people, but have a tendancy to turn on you to cover their butts. The benefits are good, vacation time is easily used, and the paychecks are always on time! Unfortunately, there are not many nice things to say about a company circling the drain.

ConsConstantly changing priorities and rules. It's bloated size and enormous bureaucracy make it difficult to get anything meaningful done. There is a noticable lack of organized training on the myriad of ever changing IT systems making learning and sucessfully completing ones job difficult.

Advice to Senior ManagementBe upfront and honest with junior employees regarding the prospects of future career growth.

Many fine, talented people that are frustrated by lack of leadership

    Senior Vice President (Current Employee)

    Gun shy

    Managing Director (Former Employee)

ProsGood benefits, good people to work with.

ConsConstant change, ever shifting priorities, lack of transparency from Leadership.

Advice to Senior ManagementChange for the sake of change is not good. New hires with three year commitments do not benefit the long term health of the firm.

In the beginning of my career at Marsh - Enjoyable job and nice people at Marsh.

    Client Representative II (Current Employee)
    Houston, TX

ProsGreat Benefits and pay. Many holidays. Working with large accounts and good people.

ConsPoor Management and lots of favoritism. You are a just a number at Marsh as no job security. They lay off good employees and keep others for no good reason. I worked hard and received great reviews and praise but got laid off with other people. I thought my job was secure and was shocked about getting the axe.
