Advice to Senior Management
Develop and stick with plans that help eliminate redundancies. Create and environment that emphasizes the why. Why are we doing what we do?
Pros
-Lots of resources to rely on for information and support
-No lazy coworkers
-Until now no time wasted in sales efforts
Cons
-Unstable environment
-Ever changing software sometimes to software with less functionality
-Everyone is overwhelmed with work always
-Very little clerical assistance
-No training
Advice to Senior Management
Knock it off - if you still have no idea how this should work give it up! Get an agency management system and quit sucking up all the bonus money.
Pros
I worked with top professionals in my industry in a collegial environment.
Cons
Always fighting to get paid on incentive plan. Lack of cohesion between MMC companies to the detriment of clients.
Advice to Senior Management
Improve cross company policies and procedures. It costs less to integrate services with one client than have to sell to two or worse, put one at risk. In the end MMC stockholders gain value.
Pros
-There are many very intelligent people that you can learn a lot from.
- Lots of resources and different positions/roles available (if your willing to move around).
- Interesting clients to work for.
Cons
-a few complete idiots in senior level positions and I have no idea how they have stuck around.
-Insurance
- Everything is about growth, if you want to be successful you need to be able to sell. Servicing employees are not valued as much as they once were. In fairness, it is a strong company which makes selling a good opportunity.
Advice to Senior Management
The new sales focus is quickly killing the collaboration at this company.
Pros
Decent salary, sales bonuses are good, great client list, theoretical prestige of working at "Marsh" and the fancy titles, expense accounts for fancy dinners, limos and hotels to support the company image.
Cons
Except for MD, titles are worthless in reality. Unless you are CE, access to the clients is almost impossible if your job involves trying to talk with clients about anything other than old fashioned P&C placement. Everything is all about revenue - if you don't believe that, then you have have been there less than 2 years. Too many initiatives launched by NY. Geographic structure conflicts with national servicing of clients. Each day brings a new fight over accounting and who should get credit for revenue, sales, client service. Internal Marsh needs are generally placed ahead of servicing clients. Support staff has been cut too far over the past years so remaining staff are far too overloaded to really provide quality client service.
Advice to Senior Management
Number 1 - truly realize that clients are completely critical and are the foundation of everything. They must be treated with respect and provided excellence in service. Number 2 - pay attention to what lower level employees are saying. Most MDs have no idea about what is happening on the ground level in relation to what problems/frustrations clients are having with Marsh. Number 3 - if employees are your biggest asset, then treat them that way. Otherwise stop saying that.
