    Pros

Great people and talent. Learning opportunities. Fair compensation and good benefits package.

    Cons

Company and industry specific issues temporarily caused some instability.

    Advice to Management

Continue to make the difficult decisions you are making today so that Marsh will continue to be a great place to work

  2. MMC is potentially a great place to build the best, but long term leadership is needed.

    Pros

Teamwork, knowledge sharing and the work-life balance of the insurance industry. Senior folks regularly acknowledge the work of subordinates and almost shy away fom taking credit for the work of others.

    Cons

High level of beurocracy, local chieftans and posturing, resistance to thinking outside the box at the day to day level. There have been so many fits and starts overt the last few years that people are wary of anyone touting solutions - potentially a disaster brewing but for the fact that most employees, those looking to create wealth and value, not simply take it, are team players willing to build for the the sake of being part of something larger than themselves.

    Advice to Management

Stay the course and stick around beyond 2010.

    Pros

Marsh spares no expense for their employees. Tenure runs very high in the office to prove how much Marsh values their employees. The training process is comprehensive, inclusive, and every detail has been thought out. Staff is committed to a team environment and supporting each other. Resources are always available to help out employees. There is a high degree of professionalism in the office.

    Cons

Being a very large company, there are many processes and workflows you have to learn to do your job correctly. Once you learn them it's no big deal. I really can't think of any major cons to working at Marsh.

    Advice to Management

Management has been great. I'd love to meet more of the leadership, but I understand this is difficult as Marsh is nationwide.

    Pros

I worked with top professionals in my industry in a collegial environment.

    Cons

Always fighting to get paid on incentive plan. Lack of cohesion between MMC companies to the detriment of clients.

    Advice to Management

Improve cross company policies and procedures. It costs less to integrate services with one client than have to sell to two or worse, put one at risk. In the end MMC stockholders gain value.

    Pros

The leadership of the company is breaking down silos, investing in innovation, and is looking to develop the company's top talent.

    Cons

There are too many crusty old curmudgeons holding onto the ways of the past. We need some fresh blood and fresh thinking to quickly resuscitate this century-old organization.

    Advice to Management

Invest in people, invest in innovation. Embrace failure, embrace learning. Manage risk, manage complexity--don't try to avoid or eliminate it.

    Pros

It's a great company. Excellent pay, excellent advancement opportunities, scored 100 on the HRC Equality Index, community service minded, flexible in scheduling

    Cons

The one big con I can think of is that MMC is such a huge company that you can sometimes feel like just a number, but that feeling goes away pretty quickly.

    Pros

Marsh and McLennan is a great place to work in NY and throughout the world. The compensation is excellent and the pension is a great bonus.

    Cons

The interview process is very long and tough. There are high standards to earn an interview, and only the strongest candidates are invited.

    Advice to Management

Keep up the good work, this company is on the up and up. Continue to improve compensation and increase the distance between the closest competitors.
