Pros
Great quality of coworkers.Good teamwork and camaraderie among peers. Nice working environment with an easy commute. It's in Iowa.
Cons
Revolving door of senior executives. For example, at least 6 different CEO s in 10 years making it impossible to chart a strategic course then sail there.
Advice to Senior Management
Be more inclusive and really look around you at the talent available. You're missing it by not involving capable people in our leadership team.
Pros
Great benefit package, great resources available, hours are from 8:30am to 5:30pm, largest risk management broker in the world.
Cons
Performance Reviews are biased, compensation needs to be raised for certain position, career limitations, more training needs to be provided in general to avoid large E&O's.
Advice to Senior Management
Compensate employees fairly and accordingly compared to competition.
Pros
There are many great people who work there and the carriers they work with are excellent as well.
Cons
No room for advancement. No compensation when merited. Uncaring with respect to family coming first. No recognition for a job well done.
Advice to Senior Management
Support and reward those who produce and perform for the company and create more opportunities for advancement for them. Promote from within- there are some great people that work there that will leave and go to another brokerage because they have hit the glass ceiling.
Pros
the people i worked with everyday
Cons
downsizing employer do to restructuring
Advice to Senior Management
give up your bonus so that you can save a family.
Pros
International exposure, complexity and intellectural challenge definitely propelled my career. Firm is contributing to the advancement and debate of socail issues retirement, healthcare, risk mitigation to cover the unexpected...with all the natural catastrophes insured businesses (those that take risk advice) are able to recover and help communities to recover as well.
Cons
constant cost cutting distracting from growth investing
Advice to Senior Management

Pros
Excellent benefits package, relaxed office environment, interesting colleagues. Local roles are limited but there are many opportunities to advance or move around in the company if you are willing to relocate.
Cons
It is really up to the individual to push the envelope and get noticed in order to be given the opportunity to grow. The tools are available but a lot of personal effort is required in order to advance.
Advice to Senior Management
Continue to encourage colleagues to become involved. When hiring new colleagues, highlight the growth opportunities that are available and be sure to state plainly that most opportunities for advancement outside of supervisor/manager roles will require relocation. Figure out how to reduce the high turnover.
Pros
My direct management is excellent and have helped me a great deal in my work life. I enjoy working with my local staff and colleagues.
Cons
The Op-Cos under the MMC umbrella do not live in the real world. This company has a habit of C-level musical chairs every few years. Senior management is definitely an old boy network.
The corporate leaders are interested in only their own personal gain.
Advice to Senior Management
Doing employee surveys is fine, but you need to actually address the issues they come to light in these surveys. The balance between executive salary and the 'people who do the work' is shameful. 12 quarters of profit but they have cut staff and services so far that they are lucky to still be in operation.
Pros
35.5 work weeks and no overtime
Cons
Low pay for the amount of work that needs to be done
Advice to Senior Management
Hire knowledgable people
Pros
good people, great environmental, awesome cubicles
Cons
too much corporate politics in that place
Advice to Senior Management
listen to your employees
Pros
There is a huge knowledge base within the company and people are generally willing to help out and share that knowledge. Marsh does a great job of creating knowledge experts within the company which probably is one of our largest assets.
Cons
The downsides are that you have to work really hard to get people to recognize the hard work that you are doing. I would also say that the compensation is below what other companies in the industry pay
Advice to Senior Management
I would say that they need to recognize how hard everyone is working and it should be recognized through compensation.
