I worked at Marshalls part-time (less than an year)

    Pros

The people were great to work with. I was okay with minimum wage which was 7.50 a hour and it was easy to work your way up.

    Cons

The store didn't have a lot of customers so I was left bored and standing for hours.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

    Management was good.

I have been working at Marshalls part-time (more than an year)

    Pros

The employees overall are friendly, usually the customers are too. There's always going to be that occasional rude person.

    Cons

There's a lot of theft, and they put a lot of pressure to get you to sign customers up for TJX credit cards. Not enough hours except for the fall season leading up to Christmas

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Ease off on push for the credit card. Not a lot of bonuses

Overly-worked, high turnover. Wage workers aren't a priority. It's all about beating sales and reducing shrink.

I worked at Marshalls part-time (more than 3 years)

    Pros

The 20% discount is handy. Prices are cheap.

    Cons

Management will not train you, instead the will throw you out on the floor on the first day and expect you to understand everything. Management is vindictive against employees and their coworkers as it is a competition to the top. Raises, despite your hard work is undervalued. It may be on 23 cents.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Train better, stop being vindictive, you are not always right

    Terrible

I have been working at Marshalls

    Pros

Coworkers are nice. Or at least some of them. Only thing that makes work bearable.

    Cons

Only 10% discount for working there. Management only care about themselves. They want you to do extra work, but don't want to give you something in return. New management won't let you take time off during the holidays even if you have vacation or plans. Looking for a new job. Can't take it anymore.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Give more benefits for part time employees. They are the ones who really run the store. And if you want someone like a parttime associate to do the work of a coordinator or key carrier, then be willing to give something like extra pay in return. Stop being selfish.

I worked at Marshalls part-time (more than an year)

    Pros

10% discount (which is honestly nothing) with special 20% discount weekends.
I met some really nice people.
Management is understanding when it comes to family emergencies or other inconveniences life tends to throw at you. This is important to note because I have had jobs where something has happened to me when I couldn't come into work and I got reprimanded (loss of hours or even fired) for it like it was my fault that terrible things I have no control over happened to me.

    Cons

Managers have ego problems and won't give up what you want even if it means you could be more versatile like working other departments.
They promote people to higher positions without giving a raise.
Only a 25 cent raise every 9-12 months and that doesn't rollover with the slight minimum wage raise every year.
They over work the loyal workers who have been with the company for many years.
They barely give you hours, but complain when you aren't available enough because you need to work a second job to pay bills.
Managers will guilt trip you into staying longer or coming in on your days off, but refuse to give reliable workers more hours.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Listen to your employees. Pay the reliable ones well and treat them well. Don't take advantage of the reliable workers who go above and beyond what is asked of them.

    Pros

    Benefits,flexible schedule, friendly work atmosphere.

    Cons

No opportunities for advancement. Raises are. 25 cento

per year, disrespectfull. They want you to do more every day and no reward other than not even a thank you note. Even as part time you feel overworked and under estimated. They relay in few good workers that have been there many years making the same money and have no desire to move up. Every body else Quits.

    Pros

    Good hours during summer

    Flexible schedule

    Friendly Associates

Meet many new people almost every day

    Cons

No hours 8 months out of the year

    No advancement

    Dictatorship like management

Horrible pay for sales and stock associates

    Miniscule yearly pay raises

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Give associates more than a .26 cent raise for two years of employment. And don't have so many management positions, too many chiefs, not enough Indians. And please don't let your part time associates go two months without a single hour of work.
