    Pros

Really great pay. Really great work life balance. The agency has a whole is really great. They really take care of their people and the families. Your salary goes a long way because of the low cost of living.

    Cons

As a creative it's really uninspiring. Ever since a changing of the guard in the creative department the work has become a joke and morale is really low. Really lame client roster. There is a lot of over head and unnecessary staff. It's in a really small town with very little to do.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Martins reputation is beginning to hurt because of a very poor choice in creative leadership. Martin has an amazing legacy for being honest and humble but a few key folks up at the top are creating a shady and unhealthy culture.

    Pros

Martin is a company steeped in the southern way of doing things. This sometimes comes out good, and sometimes bad. Good, in the sense that everyone wants to help you succeed. They (as a company) want to succeed, and prove that they're a big player. And with their clientele, it's hard to argue.

    Cons

Southern charm backfires when many employees get off at 6pm, no questions asked. Work-life balance is important, but creating great work sometimes means staying a bit later.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Push teams harder to create the best work possible. Sometimes work gets caught in the wheelhouse and comes out less exciting.

    Pros

The foundation of The Martin Agency was built by amazing and talented people. The culture of good and tough comes through in their work ethic and how they treat their employees. The tough is always constructive.

    Cons

Advancement takes a very long time.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Learn to find new ways of doing business. The old standby isn't going to work much longer. Recognize and reward different employees (not just the same ones over and over).

    Pros

Friendly. Keep you up to date on progress of Agency. They have some great people. They do have a strong set of values, though their execution of those values can feel at times half-hearted or hypocritical.

    Cons

You feel 5-10 years behind there as far as work. Not terribly sincere or as authentic as they try to make the staff and ad world believe. They are friendly, but they smile even when they don't like you, so you really never know where you stand there. They will say whatever it takes to make you feel they will advance you, even if they have no plans too. They are more rhetoric than real.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Too much group think. It's a lot of people protecting their jobs than trying to be really good at them. Overreact to outside criticism to the point of making really impulsive decisions that don't actually make the agency better, and often times worse.

    Pros

I really appreciate how passionate everyone was about their work. Our project mentors were there to help us and offer keen advice when we needed it. One of the most fun internship experiences in my early career.

    Cons

A few times the project felt misguided, like project managers were keeping us in the dark about the broader problem we were trying to solve. Our intern team needed more specific guidelines to deliver the results management wanted.

Richmond can be a drag if you're single and from a bigger market. Bureaucracy. Slow adaptation. Some ambiguity about the future.
