    Pros

Martin Agency offers their employees the opportunity work alongside some of the most talented individuals in the industry. The culture is competitive but relaxed. Depending on the account you work on, be prepared to put in LONG hours and work through the weekends...but you'll ultimately walk away with incomparable experience. Having Martin experience will no doubt push you along in your career. The HR department is wonderful and there is a ton of pride for the overall company and its leaders.

    Cons

Very competitive workplace. Be prepared to compete with your peers on your work. HUGE bonus for the clients, but lends itself to be an environment based on constantly getting ahead rather than focusing on the task at hand. Loooong hours.

    Good culture, good people.

    Pros

For the most part, the people are nice and genuinely treat work as a team effort. C-level management has had a relatively smooth transition from the "old regime" who made Martin the national powerhouse it is today. Consistently produces above-average work for top-tier clients.

    Cons

Traditional agency in middle of process of becoming truly integrated/digital. Due to its location (Richmond), many senior leaders have stay longer than typical in advertising, making growth more difficult to achieve.

    Pros

Martin is really a wonderful place to work. Good culture and for the most part good people. They can provide a very good standard of living in an up and coming city that does not have monetary issues of a NYC or California agency. The work is solid and sometimes brilliant.

    Cons

The greatest challenges come for people who reach a certain level within the company and have an ambition to go further. The insular nature of their culture make it difficult to succeed if you are not "one of them." It is great place for young people to make their mark if they don't need the energy of the bigger markets. It is good for middle tier people with families. It is not so good for ambitious top tier executives.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Be honest with people about the opportunities available to them so they can make informed decisions about their future.

    Pros

Really great pay. Really great work life balance. The agency has a whole is really great. They really take care of their people and the families. Your salary goes a long way because of the low cost of living.

    Cons

As a creative it's really uninspiring. Ever since a changing of the guard in the creative department the work has become a joke and morale is really low. Really lame client roster. There is a lot of over head and unnecessary staff. It's in a really small town with very little to do.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Martins reputation is beginning to hurt because of a very poor choice in creative leadership. Martin has an amazing legacy for being honest and humble but a few key folks up at the top are creating a shady and unhealthy culture.

    Pros

Martin is a company steeped in the southern way of doing things. This sometimes comes out good, and sometimes bad. Good, in the sense that everyone wants to help you succeed. They (as a company) want to succeed, and prove that they're a big player. And with their clientele, it's hard to argue.

    Cons

Southern charm backfires when many employees get off at 6pm, no questions asked. Work-life balance is important, but creating great work sometimes means staying a bit later.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Push teams harder to create the best work possible. Sometimes work gets caught in the wheelhouse and comes out less exciting.

    Pros

The foundation of The Martin Agency was built by amazing and talented people. The culture of good and tough comes through in their work ethic and how they treat their employees. The tough is always constructive.

    Cons

Advancement takes a very long time.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Learn to find new ways of doing business. The old standby isn't going to work much longer. Recognize and reward different employees (not just the same ones over and over).

I worked at Martin Agency as an intern (less than an year)

    Pros

I really appreciate how passionate everyone was about their work. Our project mentors were there to help us and offer keen advice when we needed it. One of the most fun internship experiences in my early career.

    Cons

A few times the project felt misguided, like project managers were keeping us in the dark about the broader problem we were trying to solve. Our intern team needed more specific guidelines to deliver the results management wanted.
