I have been working at Martin-Brower full-time (less than an year)

    Pros

    Pay is there every week
Benefits are okay, no pension for union drivers
Once you get your own routes the job gets easier

    Cons

Communication internally within transportation and warehouse is lacking
Too much micro managing top down
    Chaotic hours, lack of sleep

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Have some accountability, confess to mistakes and just be honest. A little transparency never hurt.

I have been working at Martin-Brower full-time (less than an year)

    Pros

Limited supervision, easiest delivery method I'm aware of, benefits are good, vacation is substantial, pay is very good, and equipment is better than decent and getting better.

    Cons

Schedule, schedule, schedule. At the DFW location in Roanoke, TX they run a lot of teams. Your home time will be nothing. You will start as an extraboard employee running at the mercy of management. If you do not like teams, meaning long routes of 18-30 hours, sleeping on a truck, or you like working solo this job is not for you.

However, the pay is great. You will make between 60k and 70k your first year easy. If you can take a year or two of extraboard and team runs, you can score a local route which is usually 4 days a week and making in the ballpark of 70k to 80k.

There are a lot of 20 year veterans, a few 30 year veterans and a guy with over 40 years in. Seniority is a long way to the top. 7 years will put you in the middle of the pack of roughly 100 drivers.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Only thing I would suggest is the Transportation department find people with commercial driving experience. I mean substantial seat/glass time. You really need that to garner respect and open ears from your professional drivers.

I worked at Martin-Brower full-time (less than an year)

    Pros

Initially job interview sounded great. Offerred and took day position, under new management, etc.

    Cons

Once employed, they changed my shift to 3rd shift, no choice in the matter. Found out after hired that yes, management was new as most were previously fired so utter chaos, zero loyalty.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Management should support their supervisors and managers. Provide them with the tools they need to do the job and keep your promises. I happy employee is a productive employee.

Former Employee - Operations in Houston, TX

    I worked at Martin-Brower full-time (more than 10 years)

    Pros

Given the ability to work on multiple projects and held accountable for all of them. Steady work in a 24/7 environment. Large teams with a huge amount of responsibilities and challenges.

    Cons

You barely get to know your supervisors or managers before they wise up and leave. Job titles do not match the amount of responsibility or accountability for the position. This enables the company to justify the pay range for the job title.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Have an incentive to keep good talent within the organization and they will not sprint for the first external opportunity that comes along.

    Pros

If you need a job it will pay your bills.

    Cons

Transportation dept should have people in management positions be required to have actual experience as a driver. Drivers have very little confidence in their ability to lead in that dept.

    Pros

Good pay, Full benefits, Union, Overtime available

    Cons

Hard work, Work until you're work is done, Physically demanding, Union.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Take more tile to actually get to know and understand your employees. Understand their needs and expectations from you as a supervisor/manager. DO NOT demean our jobs and what we do, I would love to see you do what we do. When the yearly surveys come around and ask what you can do to better our experience working for MB, listen and take the advice. Unhappy workers = Below par work ethic.
