I worked at Maruti Suzuki full-time (more than 10 years)

    Pros

    this is very big company
laid back , and easy going environment.
pay rate is high and people appear satisfied.
Free lunch is served in facility. after eating heavy lunch most of us tend to be sleepy for rest of 2nd half.
engineering is mostly young out of college boys.

    Cons

very few experienced engineers left in this company, mostly engineering is men below 27 years of age (>95%).
Most young engineers join maruti for gaining temporary experience and after 8 months move to europe for higher studies. hence, every year hundreds of engineers move to Europe.

so maruti HR hires every year hundred of young college graduates to fill the vacuum created by those leaving the company in huge numbers. this is a seasonal vicious cycle and occurs every year during month of June.

10+ years of experienced engineers would make less than 5% of engineering.
you have to talk in Hindi language & if you don't know Hindi language and from Chennai then you will never fit here.
job promotion is tied with " how much your DPM is pleased with you" & not your performance.
DPM is treated as GOD when it some to grading.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

    diversify
hire experienced engineers with at-least 15 years experience

its not good for maruti to provide free training to these college students only to have them simply leave the company after 9 months!!

You should start process of layoff , by firing the bottom 5 percent of low performers in all levels , especially the DPM should be laidoff if engineers below them cannot perform.
anonymous 360 degree feedback is not taken in to consideration and DPMs are awarded even though they perform very low.

Former Employee - Assistant Manager in Gurgaon, Haryana (India)
Former Employee - Assistant Manager in Gurgaon, Haryana (India)

I worked at Maruti Suzuki full-time (more than a year)

    Pros

You will probably learn the most in this company if you are in the process engineering or production fields.
It is the learning of a lifetime.
Also, being a big name in the Indian market, it is recognizable on your CV for other jobs

    Cons

The atmosphere is not one where personal growth is encouraged. In the production domain, for any error, a blame game ensues rather than setting about correcting it between departments. Also, they expect you to give up holidays if there is extra work and that too Sundays, the only weekly holiday you get here.
    Growth is pretty slow.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Too many valuable employees leave this organization. In my couple of years of working here, 5 people left in a department of 20 people. Try doing something to stem the tide.
