management has no clear direction and does not communicate much to rank and file

Anonymous Employee (Current Employee) Santa Clara, CA

    Pros- good cafeteria
    - decent gym, flexible lunch hours
    - annual company picnic is usually at a big amusement park
    - not many formal processes so sometimes feel like a startup

    Cons- lack of career development.
    - upper management does not communicate their vision for the company
    - very little inter-team cooperation leading to failure
    - unbalanced work loads between teams as some are over-staffed while others are under-staffed
    - opaque bonus process
    - salary is usually below market rate

Advice to Senior Managementgive employees your vision for the company, let engineers know how their work is impacting customers so that people are more motivated, better communication about big company-wide changes should be formally announced instead of hearing through the rumor mill

Schizophrenic executive management creates lots of thrash

Manager (Former Employee) Santa Clara, CA

ProsNice physical work environment, reasonable tools
In Santa Clara - heavily subsidized meals
Some very smart people - most teams are quite capable
Marvell has lots of neat technologies - that seem quite synergistic

ConsDecision making is crippled by too many late reversals/edicts by executive management
Compensation is not really competitive, very poor variable compensation (so no upside)
Internal product teams are often set up to compete against each other - this saps morale
Marvell never seems to capitalize on its technology fully....
Just feels like the whole is less than the sum of the parts

Advice to Senior ManagementHire senior managers and give them enough time to make a success of new directions
Get out of the way... you seem to think you know more than the content experts you hired
Spend your time on the big strategic issues and not second guessing/micro-managing the troops

    "Big" company experience

Staff Engineer (Current Employee) Santa Clara, CA

ProsGood sport facilities, good cafeteria (used to be better).

ConsBad, not educated management. A lot of games: who is better, who is worse. Old timers do not care about company future, but they own "good" life.

Advice to Senior ManagementCommunicate with your employes.

Too much red tape, unethical behavior, and leading by fear

Information Technology (Current Employee) Santa Clara, CA

ProsThe employees are intelligent and work hard.
    Benefits are decent.

ConsLack of accountability / way too much finger-pointing or playing the blame game
Executive management is clueless about how to run a successful organization
Very little transparency from the executives on down
Left hand doesn't know what the right hand is doing (people in the same group, sitting side by side end up asking the same questions because they don't communicate with each other)
Hard to get anything accomplished because you have to jump through so many hoops for every little thing.
Very little ethnic diversity (90+% Visa holders from China and India)

Advice to Senior ManagementInstead of leading this company by keeping everyone afraid of you, lead by example. Stop with all the unethical actions by the top executives. Showing even a hint that you actually CARE about your employees would be a huge step in the right direction.

ProsNice Cafeteria and Gym. Campus is nice. If you have electric car, can get free charging at company since they installed charging stations and solar panels over the parking lot.

Diversified but need to break through

Design Engineer (Current Employee) Santa Clara, CA

ProsThe company has been very successful with the core business. In addition to that, there are tons of new product being developed. It is a trend for IC now a days, and the company need to find a way to put everything together and make it work.

ConsWith so many products on going. It is hard to stay focused. This is what the company need to improve. The company expanded over the years, there are people or team that lost their direction.

Advice to Senior ManagementStay focused and keep company moving forward.
