    Pros

    Great pay & benefits. Other employees you work with are nice to talk to.

    Cons

    Dealing with nasty people coming through toll lanes who lie on you to make you look bad on the job and get you fired. Management not giving you a chance.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

    Not all customers are believable because some don't want to pay the toll so give your employee the benefit of a doubt before firing them. Don't forget that your employees are customers too.

    I have been working at Maryland Department of Transportation

    Pros

    Work life balance is great, it's easy to use leave and there's an abudance of it even for new employees. The benefits are good except for dental care is lacking significantly, be sure to brush and floss daily or 2 times per day with this plan. Diverse work environment you'll find all different types of people at this organization with varying academic, ethnic, and work backgrounds. The training is excellent and thorough particularly in technical skills.

    Cons

    The salary is too low compared with other companies they try to make up for it with benefits but it's still too low. Salary should be increased to better match the very large cost of living in the DC metro area. Also management really needs to show more appreciation for employees on a daily basis in varying capacities. Many offices lack this significantly.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

    provide more support and appreciation for employees daily; Senior managment also needs to be exposed more to employees and middle managers to ensure they know what type of resoruces are available and have a clear understanding of the existing work and what needs to be changed. Too much this is the way we've always done it mentality.
