    Very Interesting

Former Employee - Medical Laboratory Technician in Baltimore, MD

I worked at Maryland General Hospital (less than an year)

    Pros

Small Hospital. Friendly faces through out the hospital.

    Cons

In the laboratory the people training the techs were very negative. The environment was extremely stressful, there were no happy faces there. The trainers did not like to train, so they tended to give trainees a very hard time. Supervisors rely on trainers for feedback about trainees, but is unfair to trainees if the information from the trainers is negative based on the fact that they do not want to train.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Give incentive to trainers to make them want to train. Get feedback from trainees because it creates a better environment at work. When trainees offer feedback do not hold it against them.

I have been working at Maryland General Hospital full-time (more than 5 years)

    Pros

Great working environment and benefits. The patients are generally connected to the community and have support from family. There are strong programs that are marketed well to the community, such as the oncology and orthopedic programs.

    Cons

Nursing management and leadership is lacking and has high turnover with nurse managers. Information from senior leadership is infrequent. Communication and participation on projects and initiatives between departments is sometimes difficult.

    Recommends
    Neutral Outlook

    Pros

The people that work here enjoy working here and make your day to day duties better. Everyone is friendly and communicates with each other.

Opportunities to expand in your career are good. While this doesnt necessarily mean promotion, the opportunity to learn more is offered through tuition reimbursement, committees, and interactions.

Great commuting choices. Public transport and parking are easy.

    Work/Life balance.

    Cons

Some managers can lack a presence.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Continue seeking good talanted managers to help form the company.
Be more open with communication about what is going on with the Medical System and our membership.
