    Cons

The management staff need more professional training. Employees should be compensated better.

I worked at Marywood University as an intern (less than a year)

    Pros

    Serene studying environment, great mentors

    Cons

More opportunities for student development. Coordination between departments

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

There needs to be campus wide communication where everyone is always on the same page as a unit. More coordination between departments

I have been working at Marywood University full-time (more than 10 years)

    Pros

The people at Marywood are the best! They are devoted to the students and their jobs.

    Cons

Over the last few years, communication has become cloudy. Little information flows from the top down and sometimes rumors take hold as a result. Decisions are increasingly made by a small group if not one or two people.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Without serious adjustment of finances and goals, there may not be a future for the institution. Consider changing models and priorities in higher education and adjust accordingly.

I have been working at Marywood University full-time (less than a year)

    Pros

Pay is reasonable based on cost of living, generally nice employees and students, good benefits. People try to be helpful in any way they can and genuinely care. Discount on meals in the dining hall (which is a good deal and there's a good variety). Free gym membership on campus.

    Cons

Long hours (little work-life balance), politics (then again, it is academia, so it's to be expected). Communication issues between some people and sometimes it's difficult to know about protocol because it might not be stated.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Sort out internal issues and improve overall communication.

    I worked at Marywood University

    Pros

100% tuition paid for employees & their kids

    Cons

Most people just work for the free tuition and then quit once they finish school or their kids graduate. (Note that free tuition does not include the exhorbitant fees and book costs.) Pay is about 1/3 less than elsewhere. When I left, there was a lot of talk about staff reductions and people were being let go seemingly at random. Employees afraid to say anything -- even offer positive ideas -- because of the threat of job loss. Way to get ahead is to befriend someone in management so you are "protected." Management does not communicate with employees; major changes often happen suddenly and staff is expected to adapt with little or no notice, training, or guidance. General atmosphere of fear and repression keeps university from truly growing or providing quality education.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

No need for advice, as no one would listen.

I have been working at Marywood University

    Pros

Marywood is a great place to work, but the salary is low in comparision to other comparable universities. Good people, Scranton is great!

    Cons

The biggest con is the salary. the poeple are great, the staff is accomadating, but you are given a great deal of responsbility and not compensated for it.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

    none

    I worked at Marywood University

    Pros

The best, and only, reason to seek employment is for the benefits. Pay for all support staff positions extremely low compared to similar positions at surrounding colleges and universities

    Cons

Throughout campus depts have many family members work side by side or they supervisor one another. Makes it an extremely uncomfortable environment to be in if you don't have any blood relations on campus. Nepotism reigns supreme

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Current hiring practices are very shady, if anyone was to bring suit about equal opportunity for employment or the rampant nepotism how will you respond?
