Lakewood, NJ

Former Employee – worked at Masco Cabinetry full-time for more than a year

ProsHonestly, there is no quality that you can describe about this company.

ConsCompany with no respect to employees. Being treated like slaves even when you give 200%. They feel that everyone is replaceable with a temp. They hire only temps to work there and then lay-off and fire at the drop of a hat. Their quality has diminished throughout the years and they don't care what the product looks like-just box it and get it out the door. You can tell the management areas, where you think as an employee needs improvement; they just say "Oh yeah, you are right", "Good idea to improve the process", but never heard back anything. I've always thought that the company was running because of the compromise of their employees, but not from management. Suddenly the announcement comes for shutting down the site located at Lakewood, NJ. If your looking for a permanent job, this is most definately NOT the place to go. They make no sense at all!! Save yourself the stress this place puts you under and look for employment elsewhere

Advice to Senior ManagementA company running a business like this (Granite Counter tops) needs to be prepared or at least committed to interact with their employees in the best way to improve production process, and also to identify areas for opportunity on future development of the company. Wrong decisions made, could get you on problems like the ones we live on Masco Cabinetry, Lakewood,NJ.

ProsNice building and facilities.
Good company for consultants.

ConsWorst IT management that I have ever seen especially IT directors who waste a ton of company's money on failed projects and buying expensive software, services, consultants on their whims. They don't involve business in business application projects - a well known principle for project success.
It seems like the only way they know of saving money is by laying off employees every year.
The company also promotes Sycophancy.

Advice to Senior ManagementReplace current IT directors and managers with professionals and experienced people in the trade. Weed out Sycophants.

Current Employee – been working at Masco Cabinetry full-time for more than 3 years

ProsUnder old leadership things were good - work life balance was acceptable and leadership prior to 2012 treated employees with respect.

ConsUsed to be a better company. After arrival of new leadership in 2012 things went downhill. Company replaced all leadership and none seemed to care about employees. Work-life balance no longer exists, employees are expected to work long hours and no one ever thanks them. Employees used to smile, now everyone looks depressed, sad and worried. Future of company seems to be questionable. Compensation is horrible and for sure not competitive.

Advice to Senior ManagementLook around and appreciate your employees.

ProsDecent product
History of the company is good

Cons5 years ago - this was a great place to work. Since then - there has been a change in management twice. The first change - was a disaster - the management team did not understand the business and as a result lost a lot of market share. The second upper level management team change happened in 2012 - it is worse than the first change. The president of the company - has no clue about the business models. The one size fits all approach - does not constitute a good strategy for 3 different brands with 3 different customer bases. In addition, the new management team focuses entirely on the short term goal and sacrifices any long term strategy. Not only does this happen a lot - but the short term "knee jerk" reaction of upper management has destroyed the previous value that was created within the company.

Advice to Senior ManagementBefore you make major changes to the business - understand the business models (yes they are different) and actually think through your decisions. In addition, you have a huge disconnect between corprate and facilities - this must be fixed

ProsStrong product lines and passionate supporting personnel.

ConsHighly political environment resulting in worried employees on many levels. Utilization of consultants continues to result in start/stop status on many projects.

Advice to Senior ManagementChoose a strategy and stick with it. Stop shedding top talent. The loss of tenured industry expertise is catching up with you. MC losses and departures are seeding your competitor's teams and making immediate impacts.

ProsBuilding is nice and clean.

ConsEverything, I wish I never left my job to go to Masco. I have no respect for this company. Nice Building, but no one is home.

Advice to Senior ManagementDo your homework before hiring, and stop micromanaging. All it does is create a very uncomfortable environment. Sad, the company has a huge name poor management.

ProsDecent quality products to sell, some support personnel are helpful, most are not.

ConsTop down culture, almost to the point of coersive and caustic leadership styles. There is this "us vs. them" thing going on between the sales force and management which results in a juvenile non-productive blame game that goes nowhere. No true leaders where leaders should be. You bring issues up with solutions to those issues, and it goes nowhere.

Advice to Senior ManagementLOSE THE ARROGANCE. The last I looked, Masco Corp. made it to the bottom 20 list of "The Biggest Losers" catagory for 2011, you have zilch to be proud of (and it isn't because the sales team isn't trying). While I'm at it, stop letting your top executive take big bonuses for such performances as in 2011. Recognize that you have some talent on your team, what are you doing to retain them?

ProsFlexible time, great product backed by company. Great customer support staff, upbeat, helpful.

ConsManagement seems to "fly by the seat of their pants." Many employees in support positions are indifferent...seem to be going through the motions, rude. Fellow representatives unhappy in their positions and looking for opportunities in other companies.
