    Pros

Overall the benefits packages are great for Western Mass. There are very many health plans to choose from. There is a 401K package and a penson plan. This is the first job that start new hires off with 28 days of vacation. Lots of amenities on site such as post office, tailor , dry cleaner, health center, general store and fully stocked cafeteria with different meals every day.

    Cons

Having to wear business casual all the time. It takes a long time to get anything done. There is a lot of red tape and many people have been working here many years. It's not unheard of to have many people who have 20+ years in the company which leads to a lot of, "this is always the way we have done it" type of attitudes. Management is very reluctant to allow much telecommuting. Lack of real communication between senior management. Job can very very demanding on family and personal time, due to expectation to work long hours and weekends. Since this is a Financial institution, EVERY issue is critical no matter how small, which can keep the stress level on high.

    Advice to Management

Talking about work and life balance and actually allowing work life balance are two different things. Allow people to telecommute for life balance reasons and gas is $4.00 a gallon. Listen to new ideas.

    Pros

you have the flexability of an independent contractor while enjoying w2 compensation and benifits. If you can produce all on your own it has great rewards.

    Cons

training is terrible. You learn on your own. they are only interested in you at the begining and continue that interest if you grow fast. beware the new agent financing! they will tell you if you complete the 3 year contract the trails are yours....that is false. Read the contract.

    Advice to Management

Boost commissions and allow for real financial planning. Get CFP's in your office to give real advise and not just push insurance products.

    Pros

wonderful opportunity to learn various aspects of the insurance and financial business. Mass Mutual has three locations in the CT and Springfield area.

    Cons

The location is isolated since it is located in Springfield MA. There are really no other financial or insurance companies to compare with.

    Advice to Management

Increased incentives for company workers to enhance their compensation. The company itself is very progressive in encouraging diverse employees to pursue a career at mass mutual.

    Pros

You are responsible for starting a business from scratch. This means that you have complete freedom in terms of your hours and pay. The more you work the more you make, and there is no one looking over your shoulder telling you what to do. There is a lot of freedom and the potential to make a lot of money in a relatively short period of time.

    Cons

On the flip side, if you don't put in the time and effort you won't make much. The job was almost completely commission based and asking a recent college graduate to build a business from scratch is easier said than done. There is a very high attrition rate in the industry because most people are simply not cut out for this kind of work.

    Advice to Management

In my particular office, the support we received in building our business was negligible. Sales Managers need to do a better job of helping new agents get their feet off the ground.

    Pros

great training they also have hours that you decide. this gives one a lot of freedom over when they work

    Cons

all commission based, hard to make money, they ask one to try to sell to family and friends when they shouldn't

    Advice to Management

pay interns more. this would give interns a great incentive to work more, and stay with the company long term
