    Cons

    Lots of smoke and mirrors

    Advice to Management

It is frustrating to work in an environment that has so many moving parts and different rules for different people and in the financial services world there are a lot of moving parts - many not well understood by the people who are supposed to know. Just go out and sell is a hard place to start.

    Pros

MMFG has a great benefits package and family atmosphere. It often takes care of it's employees. There is room for growth in one's career as well.

    Cons

Intra company politics can sometimes get in the way of productivity. The Springfield area is not a great place to live.

    Advice to Management

Take time to build the competencies of your staff. Dig deeper in your staff base for future leaders. There are plenty of people with terrific ideas right under your nose.

    Pros

Most of the people are great to work with. The majority of people are very engaged in their work and strive to do the best for their work groups, the company, producers, and customers. The benefits are good, and compensations is somewhat fair.

    Cons

They let some really decent people go because they don't pay them what they are worth. Managers are forced to pay high salaries to attract good talent when hiring, but cannot pay existing employees a fair salary as they progress through their careers.

    Advice to Management

Don't spend dollars though additional processes and approvals to save pennies. Force business managers to calculate true total cost when making decisions to save money though ideas such as outsourcing. In many cases, one manager’s great idea to save money can cost other areas or the company more money in the long run. Any time someone thinks they have a great idea to save a few bucks, they need to be honest about additional impacts and costs. A fictitious example would be if someone says we'll save money by closing elevators in half of the building to save maintenance costs, but don’t figure in the extra time people will need to spend walking to an elevator that is further away. A real life example is when someone installs all low flow faucet nozzles in the bathroom to save $0.0001 in water cost per hand wash, when in reality, it takes people three times as long to get the soap off their hands so they end up using almost as much water, and they end up losing $0.002 in productivity losses. Perhaps this was really a green initiative and is saving some water, and I know this may sound ridiculous, but there are many things done where people are perceived a hero to save a few bucks when in reality, they just slow down the business and productivity. We should be making it easy for employee to get their jobs done quickly whether it’s quicker for someone to get a printout, or 3 seconds less for every hit of the enter key to get a system response. Don’t spend $100 in process to get an approval for a $150 purchase.

    Pros

    - Production driven no seniority. Meaning that you have the same opportunities in year 1-3 as you would in year 7-10. - Management team is young and really successful. - I've been with another top financial firm before, but I was BLOWN away by the training at MassMutual. - You get out what you put in.

    Cons

    - You get out what you put in. So put in a lot. - Difficult in the beginning because you are ramping yourself up, which is true at any other firm though. - You have to be super motivated to succeed. Anything less, then you get to be the review poster for the "Don't do this straight out college."

    Advice to Management

Keep the open door policy. It is very helpful and I seeing great things for the SF Office especially with the up-n-comers. Unfortunately, I had to resign due to family issues out of state.

    Pros

It is a great place to work because they offer great training and advance opportunities. Management is always on top of things and allows you to perform your job at ease.

    Cons

The money is not always the best. It takes time, like any other firm, to be making the amount of money one would probably deire.

    Advice to Management

I appreciate all the help and support you offered. Better wages and benefits would be helpful to help encourage emplooyee motivation.
