I worked at Massachusetts General Hospital

    Pros

    Great Benefits. Great starting job.

    Cons

As a researcher your funding comes from your grants, not from the hospital so employment is based completely on grants.

Big hospital with a lot of revenue and good employee benefits. Active and strong scientific research environment.

Location makes drive-to-work a nightmare due to the bad traffic in the city everyday. Living expense is super high in the city.

    Pros

Hospital has great work ethics, atmosphere and comraderie. Room for growth within the hospital. Amazing benefits.

    Cons

Staff Assistant II position, 95% scheduling, despite job description or skill set. Not open to new ideas/change.

    Advice to Management

    Learn to delegate responsibilities.
Learn to deal with anger and stress when dealing with employees.
Allow for other opportunities for employees to display other talents.

    Pros

Well known, good name, good location.

    Cons

Unpersonal, bad management, benefits are pretty lackluster and pay is low for the field.

    Advice to Management

Positive reinforcement goes a long way and playing favorites does no one any favors.

  11. Best hospital in the US

    Current Employee - Anonymous Employee
    Current Employee - Anonymous Employee

I have been working at Massachusetts General Hospital full-time

    Pros

MGH is a very supportive atmosphere. It is the largest research hospital in the US, so there is lots of financial support, unlike most university labs.

    Cons

Because MGH is so large, it is easy to feel lost or insignificant working for such a large employer.

    Advice to Management

Keep up the great work. MGH does a great job of making sure everyone feels like they are included in the MGH family.
