“Great company to work for"

Marketing (Current Employee)
Dallas, TX

I have been working at Match.com full-time for more than 8 years

ProsExcellent benefits.
Great/Fun work environment.
Strong Culture.
A lot of very talented people work for the company.
Possibility to grow within the company and with other brands of the portfolio (they just started promoting international opportunities too).

ConsI have been working for this company for several years and I found very few downsides.
If you can consider that a problem, there is no room for slackers, if you are planning to hide and try to get by doing the bare minimum, this is not the place be.

Advice to Senior ManagementKeep doing what you are doing. Keep the communication going and keep sharing the strategies. It's very much appreciated.

Yes, I would recommend this company to a friend – I'm optimistic about the outlook for this company

Looks great from the outside

Anonymous Employee (Former Employee)

I worked at Match.com full-time for more than 3 years

Pros-Casual dress code
-Parties all of the time
-Flexible work environment i.e. work from home etc.
-Free match.com merch
-Food, drinks, etc.
-The 'laid back' atmosphere of the office and the company perks seem really great. They are great, but at the end of the day what is more important? Free stuff or your sanity?

Cons-Swim or rapidly sink. You learn early on whose opinion matters the most, even if they don't work in the same department as you. Eventually you'll notice people are laid off who did not get a long with these 'opinion' higher-ups. I found myself working hard to make others 'like' me as I found this mattered more than quality of work. It worked, somewhat, as I was never fired, but it was exhausting and overall not worth it.
-Hostile work environment at times
-No raise unless you are promoted. Not even a yearly 'cost of living' salary bump.
-HR doen't have the employees best intentions at heart.

Advice to Senior ManagementBe fair rather than political.

If you are in the "in-crowd" you are golden...

Anonymous Employee (Former Employee)

I worked at Match.com full-time for more than 3 years

ProsThe company has excellent benefits and a great work environment. Those perks don't make up for the cons though!

ConsRampant nepotism. There are far too many executive positions and not enough people actually working.

Advice to Senior ManagementListen to the employees. Get an HR department that works for your employees not as a tool for management

Steady decline

Anonymous Employee (Current Employee)

I have been working at Match.com

ProsBenefits
Coworkers - smart fun people
Dress Code is casual
Overall site features are cool to work with

ConsPolitics
Cliques
No raises unless promoted
Pushes those who dissent from party line out.
Creative leaders have either been incompetent or pushy. No respect for boundaries.
Underlying site features are gimmicky. Management is not inclined to listen to customers until it is a top complaint. Only reactive to numbers vs proactive and customer centric.
No HR privacy. Complaints are not taking seriously.

Advice to Senior ManagementListen to customers and be proactive. Own the plan. Stop making cliques and politics obvious be inclusive and communicate. Everything is not need to know. Do your job and lead.

Don't work here if you are a person of color.

Anonymous Employee (Former Employee)

I worked at Match.com full-time for more than 5 years

ProsFree soda, flexible work schedules, various perks

ConsNo career advancement if you aren't of the right ethnic group or skin color. Very political as well as biased when it comes to management. No African American's in management positions.

Great experience

Anonymous Employee (Former Employee)

I worked at Match.com

ProsPerks
Great people
Learning opportunities
Access to tools
3 monitors!

ConsHorrible office politics
Lots of expected overtime
Lack of corporate focus

Advice to Senior ManagementTry being more truthful with your employees. You don't have to conceal everything...just the really sensitive stuff. It's a novel concept, but it buys you long-term benefits.
It makes me sad to think of all of the money that was spent on projects that didn't do much of anything. This tells me that you could really use a different approach to data analysis. You have so much data available; I just think having three people look at it is sort of missing the point.

LOVE. MY WORK!

Anonymous Employee (Current Employee)
Dallas, TX

I have been working at Match.com full-time for more than 3 years

ProsGreat culture
Great perks
Really great benefits compared to what my friends get at other companies
Pet Insurance!
Happy Hour parties every month!
Two company parties every year!!!
Fun people
Best of all, you help people find their true love!

ConsSome people skate by without doing any work because management doesn't have the guts to fire them.
Others know how to kiss butts to keep their jobs to get ahead.
And when managers are part of the problem, well, that's the worst part. Most of the managers are great but there are a few who don't add any value.

Advice to Senior ManagementGet rid of the employees with the most complaints against them - they have no place in our fast moving company! They are dead weight.
