I have been working at Material ConneXion full-time for more than 3 years

    Pros

some smart people work there. If you are interested in design and architecture and materials it is interesting. International group of employees

    Cons

president of the company micromanages and is oddly and unnecessarily paranoid. Constant threats to staff that they'll lose their jobs. head of reseach v. smart but narcissistic and inappropriate at times. Not resourced correctly for volume of work. Smoke and mirrors keep reality from members / clients.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

trust staff more. stop with the electronic monitoring. Establish a more flexible working environment and support working women (hello? maternity leave anyone?).

    Recommends
    Neutral Outlook

I have learned much about working with people and learned how to use the internet for research.

I have been working at Material ConneXion

    Pros

I love to see new and interesting materials and I like the odd niche that a material library occupies in the design world. For the most part, the people are great and there are opportunities to do great things though they do not seem very open to me.

    Cons

There is not enough communication between different departments and a silly tradition of making interns threaten to leave before they are taken seriously; this happens in many places and I don't understand the reason.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Breathe. Take people into account a bit more. Ask how much you are still learning about what you do.
