Advice to Senior Management

Cons

Advice to Senior Management
none
Pros
Work load is not too much if you are placed in the right place and it can be challenging to complete your job because the insanity of the senior managements.
Cons
They only care about saving money and shipping more and more jobs out of the country. Eventually there will be definitely no job for people in the states to work.
Advice to Senior Management
They should focus on how their employees feel about them more and open their mind for the negative feedbacks. The performance review at Matson is only one way from management judging their people so they will never know their own mistake.
Pros
Incentives an recognition program. Great benefits package. Everyone worked well together. Time building activities were often, fun, company paid and even upper management participated at times.
Cons
More opportunities to move around the company either locally, nationally or internationally would be a plus. No company subsidized public transportation program.
Pros
The benefits are outstanding. The commission plan was generous if you are experienced and can develop business with little to no training or support. The parent company is Hawaii based and the laid back culture permeates to the logistics group. Matson could be a "last stop" for folks who can be modestly competent and can avoid making waves
Cons
The stars have to accept that they subsidize poorer performers that seem to be carried along for years. Way too much use of email to solve problems that result in blame game/chat rooms. Many employees and their senior leadership has worked together for many years so there can be a reluctance to challenge the status quo. For a company of it's size, Matson Integrated Logistics has very little in the way of KPIs that are aligned with what the front line folks do & control each day. The consequences for that are employees with too much focus on avoiding the wrath of Senior leadership rather than objectively knowing what's expected, There is a lot of focus on quoting individuals in leadership rather than pointing to policy or company values. That makes it seem more like a fiefdom at times than part of a publicly held company.
Advice to Senior Management
Make sure company goals are aligned through all levels of the organization so that each person knows exactly how their job goals fit into the overall plan. Look at the arguments/facts and ignore the personalities or names before taking action. Stay out of the small fights and do not call out employees in front of their peers unless the violation is so severe it demands it.
