I worked at Mattress Warehouse full-time (more than 3 years)

    Pros

The team work and follow through and knowledge just a phone call away ! I was compensated great ! 40 to 60 percent gains monthly helped out considerably with out a doubt !

    Cons

Being a leader you expect to heard more , i was a district manager previously and doing serious business and asking to be considered as a DM for the company but running up against walls of laughter and jealousy ! The DM force was stagnant . The people they are managing and once were need encouragement to still keep the daily drive ! We need to know we can be better than are last performance. New blood was needed for the next push !

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Watch your Sales and see where the business is happening. Seek out the individuals who are the big flame on the top of the torch that are excited and proud to be there for the company ! Promote some new people who have worked hard and get rid of some dead weight at the helm ! Some people just go through the motions, even the superiors. Time to stir up the pot and add some excitement !

Management never wanted to listen or help with resolving problems, just always yelled when things didn't go the way they thought they should.

I worked at Mattress Warehouse full-time (less than an year)

    Pros

Great training, cool co-workers and some managers. The products were great, so were the factory tours, and the representatives for the various mattress companies.

    Cons

Impossible to make commission, stuck in a store for 11 hours a day and can't leave ! Lots of infill filled promises concerning bonuses, had to do every job, from cleaning the store, hauling mattresses and boxsprings, tying them on top of vehicles etc.. Manager always changing what store you are going to. Absolutely no work life balance..

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Pay employees at least $12.00 a hour and have a helper in every store to take stress off the salespeople.

    Pros

Some nice employees to work with if your lucky enough to work in a store with other salespeople

    Cons

Most stores are one person operations with very little traffic.
    Management is very disorganized.
Training program for new salespeople was very poor, treated new hires like children.
Compensation is all commission, barely survive if not in the very few high traffic stores. Work every weekend...more than 50 hrs a week.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

    Take some management training!!!

I have been working at Mattress Warehouse full-time (more than 3 years)

    Pros

    -Great money
-Great benefits package (health, vision, dental, 401K, ect)
    - Meet some fun people to party with after work

    Cons

-Prepare to no longer have a life.
-The people in the warehouse and the corporate office are completely out of touch, and unwilling to help with even the most basic tasks.
-No room for advancement, store manager is the highest position you can get unless someone dies or gets fired. No female District Managers.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Have a little more flexibility with people schedules, happy employees perform better.

I worked at Mattress Warehouse full-time (less than an year)

    Pros

I can't say much here. Easy to get job, with almost no required qualifications.

    Cons

Probably one of the worse places to work. They have no respect for customers or their employees. Sales people are trained to rip off customers. Orders are often messed up, deliveries often late and unprofessional, and good luck if you purchased something but wanted to cancel your order before it was delivered. Yet alone file for warranty. The regional manager wanted nothing to do with anything customer related, and only cared how much money each store made. Customers were crying out until they saw any of their refunds. Sales people are plain uneducated and work there as no one else will employ them. Sorry but this company was doing everything wrong back then. I hope they made some major changes...

I have been working at Mattress Warehouse full-time (less than an year)

    Pros

Great if you like sitting around doing nothing all day.

    Cons

Long hours, not able to do anything to fill the time, rude corporate staff, awful computer systems, no compensation for travel to meetings, illegal work practices, incompetent management, trains you in deceptive sale practices, managers don't get a pay raise even though they do all the work and have all the responsibilities, no real advancement opportunities, commission is a joke, upper management uses favoritism, they will fire you for something stupid then when you try to claim overtime they lie so that they don't have to pay you. Overall horrible company to work for.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Treat your employees like people, not animals. Read the labor laws, your company violates at least 3. Stop trying to use deceptive sale practices, it's 2014 and the internet kind of ruins that advantage.
