I worked at Maxim Healthcare Services

    Pros

I had a great time working for this company. It help me get away from the nursing home ring to a more challenging roles in hospitals in the Los Angeles area and later expand to the San Fernando and antelope valley.

    Cons

Lots and lots of driving to your hospital shift each day. One day you could be at a drug rehab in Malibu with a great ocean view. the next day you're working at a hospital down the street from staples center in downtown LA. The pay is very poor for the most part but at time it was a bit higher what most nursing homes pay.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Great incentive program for recruiters who are on call and for Healthcare personel who takr assignments more then 50 miles from their home.

I worked at Maxim Healthcare Services

    Pros

Pay scale a dollar or two higher than other area agencies. Flexibility, as with other health care agencies is a plus.

    Cons

Learn to say 'no' or they will work you to death. Ask for complete client profile. Be aware that the company is for profit and only for profit.

Poor management with favoritism to recruiters. Supervisors and other internal staff were devalued.

I worked at Maxim Healthcare Services full-time (more than 8 years)

    Pros

Work-life balance and training. You feel good helping so many families with needs and helping nurses find work.

    Cons

Poor office morale, annual eval doesn't qualify you for a raise, limited growth opportunities, poor management, belittlement towards employees

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Offer more trainings to employees so converting into different roles within the company is attainable. Train the recruiters who are being promoted to management better. There are young bucks being promoted to run branches who are rude, incompetent, cause poor office morale and create bad atmospheres. Teach them that the branches are machines that run with everyone, not just with the recruiters. Stop with the favoritism, I saw it hurt a lot of people and it made them feel not part of the team.

I worked at Maxim Healthcare Services full-time (more than 5 years)

    Pros

Supportive nursing supervision and adequate new hire orientations. Opportunities to be trained in new clinical experiences. Easy to earn required CEU's through Maxim.

    Cons

Nurses are not paid competitively and can't get raises. A few more years with no cost of living raises and Maxim nurses will be making minimum wage. It seems that the way for Maxim to make more money and recruiters to get financial reward is to keep nurses hourly wages at the lowest possible levels. Good evaluations may get you a pat on the back but you can't take that to the bank.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Nurses should not be used for management reward without sharing in the profits. Without nurses the company could not exist. Raises should be based on nursing skills and approved by nursing supervisors not by those who receive financial incentive to limit raises. Homecare providers not paying huge fines to the federal government for fraud may be able to pay more for nurses and less in legal fees.
