I worked at Maxim Healthcare Services full-time (more than 5 years)

    Pros

Supportive nursing supervision and adequate new hire orientations. Opportunities to be trained in new clinical experiences. Easy to earn required CEU's through Maxim.

    Cons

Nurses are not paid competitively and can't get raises. A few more years with no cost of living raises and Maxim nurses will be making minimum wage. It seems that the way for Maxim to make more money and recruiters to get financial reward is to keep nurses hourly wages at the lowest possible levels. Good evaluations may get you a pat on the back but you can't take that to the bank.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Nurses should not be used for management reward without sharing in the profits. Without nurses the company could not exist. Raises should be based on nursing skills and approved by nursing supervisors not by those who receive financial incentive to limit raises. Homecare providers not paying huge fines to the federal government for fraud may be able to pay more for nurses and less in legal fees.

    Pros

People are nice to work with and it can be flexible depending on your boss.

    Cons

No direction, no strategy and minimal communication on what is going on with the company.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Hire the right people with experience, not ones from sister companies. Decide on a strategy an stick with it.

I worked at Maxim Healthcare Services

    Pros

I had a great time working for this company. It help me get away from the nursing home ring to a more challenging roles in hospitals in the Los Angeles area and later expand to the San Fernando and antelope valley.

    Cons

Lots and lots of driving to your hospital shift each day. One day you could be at a drug rehab in Malibu with a great ocean view. the next day you're working at a hospital down the street from staples center in downtown LA. The pay is very poor for the most part but at time it was a bit higher what most nursing homes pay.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Great incentive program for recruiters who are on call and for Healthcare personel who takr assignments more then 50 miles from their home.

I have been working at Maxim Healthcare Services part-time (more than 5 years)

    Pros

Recruiters/schedulers are usually very supportive and friendly with the field nurses. Patients and families are great, as they are with most home health care patients. Once you have been hired and completed the training, the company makes it easy to work in different locations/states as well as taking time off or wanting to work "right now" , i.e. very flexible. In most cases, the nursing sups and local management are supportive of the nurses who perform as they should. The training has improved tremendously in the past few years. I have worked with Maxim for over 6 years.

    Cons

Problem with maintaining office/management staff in some locations. Recruiters are aware of when a patient is on medicare or gov't. funding vs. being a private pay patient -- the private pays more per hour to the company, however, rarely does a recruiter pass this along to the nurses - unless the nurse is aware and pushes the issue. The wages through medicare are very low to begin with, so nurses make a substantially lower salary than if in a hospital/care facility/doctor office, etc.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Determine what is the problem in some office management situations. One office I have worked in has had a revolving door of nursing sups/manager/recruiters. One never knows who will be there the next time you call in.

I worked at Maxim Healthcare Services full-time (more than an year)

    Pros

Pay was above what other new grads got, mind you this was 5 years ago. I was trained for three days, effectively. Learned a lot by being by myself, so had no choice but to take deep breath and figure it out. Could work as many hours as you wanted, $$ WAS ALWAYS THERE IF YOU WANTED IT.

    Cons

all paperwork had to be dropped off at office by Saturday, or you wouldn't get paid following week. Sometimes was way out of the way to go there. This was 5 years ago, so maybe by now they, hopefully, are on computer. No benefits, ones offered, way to expensive.
