horrible

CNA (Former Employee)
Jeffersonville, IN

I worked at Maxim Heathcare as a contractor for less than a year

Prosyou choose when to work

Consthey will blow up your phone, even after you tell them you can't work, offer low pay, no benefits, including no OT, holiday pay or vacations, etc. don't take into consideration your allergies such as cigarette smoke, latex or cat dander when sending you to homes, and won't pay mileage unless it's 60 miles.

Advice to Senior Managementget some benefits and maybe you can keep employees

No, I would not recommend this company to a friend

Some ups, some downs: clinical management support improved, wages, not so much.

Registered Nurse (Current Employee)
Santa Rosa, CA

I have been working at Maxim Heathcare full-time for more than 5 years

ProsCompany as a whole improving ethics and standards; supportive of suggestions from staff, and of patient care needs. Much more attention to training and education than in the past, which makes working in home care feel more professional. Take field staff's experience and education into account when problem-solving patient care or family-centered issues.

ConsCompany seems to be doing ok, but Santa Rosa office has cut wages 3 times in 7 years. This is not ok. I know the office is struggling to stay open, and that's important for Medi-Cal patients in our county, but it's really hard on field staff when wages go down and benefit costs to field staff go up.

Advice to Senior ManagementRenegotiate Kaiser contract so it costs employees less [am glad to have Kaiser as an option, though!]. Keep field staff current with wage situation: how's the office doing? Are there raises anywhere in the near future? How else can you support field staff?

I was very satisfied with the clients that Maxim Home Health Services sent me to care for.

Lpn (Former Employee)
South Orange, NJ

I worked at Maxim Heathcare full-time for more than a year

ProsEveryone that I worked with was professional, friendly, and caring. I would be willing to work for this company in another part of the country.

ConsIt was hard to get time off because nurses are in great demand across the country. I worked for three months with very few days off at the beginning of 2012.

Advice to Senior ManagementNurses are needed all over the country, more nurses would apply for positions with the company if the pay was comparative to other parts of the country.

Yes, I would recommend this company to a friend – I'm optimistic about the outlook for this company

Improving all the time

Registered Nurse (Current Employee)
Santa Rosa, CA

I have been working at Maxim Heathcare full-time for more than 5 years

ProsCorporate really backing this office to improve its self. Enjoy the clients I have.

ConsStill working out a lot of issues from previous management. Wages dependent on State budget: two 10% wage cuts in 5 years is not fun.

Advice to Senior ManagementLook into returning wages cut with last two California state budgets.

Young and inexperienced recruiters promise positions that don't exist.

Nurse (Former Employee)
Seattle, WA

I worked at Maxim Heathcare

ProsWeekly pay, flexible schedules, lots of time off.

ConsNo benefits, horrible pay, general lack of work.

Advice to Senior ManagementFigure out a different way to bring nurses in to The Company. My experience is that the recruiters promise placements. Then there is a long hiring process, include trainings, tests, ect. It takes a long time to find out there is no placement in the geographic area or specialty they promised. Such a waste of time. In addition, this messes with my livelihood. Which makes me extremely angry. Maxim has a bad name with nurses. Start thinking about how you can recruit and retain QUALITY staff.
