    Nepotism at Maxim

    Senior Design Engineer (Current Employee)

    ProsCan't think of any pros.

ConsMajority of new college hires are linked to Maxim Executives. Let's give one example. In the most successful mobility Business Unit, there are 5 executive kids hired in the last two years. Guess what? There are 7 execs in the BU! It's not different for interns or new hires in other BUs. All info is public. Go to linkedin to check for yourself!

Hiring your executive's kids, instead of hiring top talent! Nice job Maxim

Advice to Senior ManagementHire best talent! Not your kids! Promote meritocracy, not nepotism!!

excellent people to work with at Maxim

    Anonymous Employee (Current Employee)

ProsMaxim's greatest asset are the excellent employees that work at the company. There is always something new you learn on the job as well as in he classes and lectures Maxim offers. Keep it up Maxim!

ConsCompany runs too lean. Need better communication from middle management regarding company direction.

Advice to Senior ManagementI believe Maixm needs to sacrifice a little today to be better positioned for the future.

    Good

Intern (Current Employee) San Jose, CA

ProsGood to work in a large company and learn a lot from many knowledgeable engineers. Engineers there are very nice and helpful. They provide very serious and challenging internship work and also expect interns to take the work serious and be productive.

ConsIn my internship duration, I have to do everything including circuit design and software development. Sometimes, it is frustrating to develop software for a circuit designer.

    Great place to start

Process Engineer (Former Employee) Portland, OR

ProsSome fine minds to work with. You will see veterans with tremendous technical experience. You get to do a lot of stuff and learn beyond your realm of work. Most of the folks are extremely helpful and willing to teach you if you show interest. You are encouraged to work in other areas.. you just need to raise your hand when theres a new project for grabs and chances are you'll get it.

ConsTremendous pressure. Not for people that want an easy job. Very fast paced and 24 by 7 flow of information you need to monitor. The office is generally low staffed so that puts additional pressure on teammates. Few new graduates so very small peer group for a student out of university. But that's changing now I guess.

Advice to Senior ManagementPlease speed up the hiring process and hire sufficient man power. There have been a lot of goodchanges in the recent times. Keep it up and make it a pleasant place to work.

A company that's really turning around

Anonymous Employee (Current Employee) San Jose, CA

Pros-Working with very intelligent, passionate, and hard-working colleagues
-Genuine effort to encourage a more positive company culture
-Some good perks (including cafeteria, gym, good health insurance, flexible vacation time)
-It's obvious that the CEO really cares about the employees

Cons-Work/life balance can be tricky to achieve
    -Compensation is slightly below average
-Some of the old culture still remains... although it is already much better

Advice to Senior ManagementContinue to find ways to take care of your employees. Some of the "old Maxim" rules still exist (including dress code, working from home, etc.)

Good company building on its success

Anonymous Employee (Current Employee) San Jose, CA

ProsSolid business and operation--innovative, smart people, profitable, growing in analog. Cultural shift prompting inspired innovation, better collaboration and improved communication.

ConsSome employees seem slow to embrace change and realize CEO is making right moves for Maxim to be more successful and differentiated in industry.

    Working environment

CAD Engineer (Former Employee) Addison, TX

ProsAdequate training was provided to new hire that made orientation and transition easier. Some flexibility in working hours, promotes work and life balance. Good communication between management and engineers.

ConsStarting salary is not competitive with the industry and stock grants were not adequate to match the gap. Career advancement is slow.

If you're not going to be in management then don't join....

Member of Technical Staff Analog Design Engineer (Current Employee)

ProsManagement (Director level and above) are very well taken care of with respect to compensation and day to day expectations and responsibilities.

ConsLot of finger pointing by management. If you're an engineer you're nothing more than a resource to complete a task. No respect for individual contribution, everybody is treated the same regardless of effort. Company does not reward the core employees, the engineers. Great for the dead wood, not so good for hard working and dedicated engineers.

Advice to Senior ManagementRespect and reward engineers for their contribution not just the directors and above.

Good experience, nice group of people to work with.

Senior Strategic Applications Engineer (Former Employee) Sunnyvale, CA

ProsGood positive environment and of course depends on which BU/team you work for. Good compensation and benefits, generally superior to most other semi companies out there.

ConsSometimes it was tough to maintain work life balance but was manageable. Not that many cons, now that they have newer and much nicer office building.
