Current Employee - Fab Operator in Beaverton, OR

I have been working at Maxim Integrated full-time for more than 5 years

    Pros

The manufacturing operators work a very demanding fab, it's not boring
Good place to learn the industry
    Good health care benefits

    Cons

Pay is very low. The only people who make a wage that is somewhat reasonable are people who have been there 10+years. Raises are small and with little difference between average and high achievers. Reviews are a joke, more designed to weed out the low end than to motivate the high achievers. With a needs improvement score you get a write up. With a exceptionable score you get the attitude of it's expected. Morale is terrible. Smart people keep silent rather than offer constructive criticism because they know it's the best coarse to follow. Speak up and it will be remembered-forever. Upper management is old school and very out of touch with the operator levels. Minimal availability of advancement

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Learn to appreciate people who deserve it and mentor (not threaten) people who need improvement. Show recognition to people who work hard with the same effort as poor performers are documented

    I worked at Maxim Integrated

    Pros

Used to be a very aggressive cutting edge company but took good care of its people. The company culture has changed. Employees are disposable.

    Cons

Seems more focused on downsizing. Morale is low. Management is top heavy. The is not much future in the company. It has lost its edge.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Take better care of your people.

I have been working at Maxim Integrated full-time for less than a year

    Pros

The people you work with on a day to day basis at Maxim are great. I have met many good IT and Business co workers who have been here many years.

    Cons

Upper Management has unrealistic expectations. The Maxim way of life is eat, sleep, breath Maxim and there is no room for anything else.

I have been working at Maxim Integrated full-time for more than 5 years

    Pros

Very diverse group of employees. All ages, all ethnicities. Good group of hard working people.

    Cons

Very poor planning. Management is top down with no upward acknowledgement.
Extremely short sighted offering no long term benefits. Many 10 year veterans were laid off to curb tenure.
CEO and COO culture is "Head in the clouds"
Constantly finding new initiatives to undercut employees. Bonuses given to few who push work on to contractors but offer no recognition of effort.
Management is full of promises but lack any follow through. Middle management is completely unfamiliar with employment law and this will eventually lead to problems.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Respect for employees would be good start without the BS platitudes. Many CEO's in silicon valley know their employees on a first name basis and actually talk to them.
Constantly under cutting employees and then posting profitability does not increase morale. Pay rates do not average out in marketplace and are significantly below without benefits. High contract to employee ratio also undermines morale. Empty, broken promises are just depressing.
Safety concerns have been dismissed for "expense" and "lackadaisical" apathetic reasons.

I have been working at Maxim Integrated full-time for more than a year

    Pros

Company makes good products and has a very motivating culture. Provides you relevant training material and online classes to excel at the job.

    Cons

Don't like the model of evaluating employees. Not everyone in the group can get a high evaluation score which affects the yearly bonus.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Should re-focus on evaluation of annual review. It's discouraging that average of the group score should be maintained across the company.
